Hello Mary - and a warm welcome... I have not experienced the depression but many here have and can speak to that aspect of your experience... Stay close to this site and take the powerful, wise advice you have received here... Our hearts are opened - so come on in and get comfortable - ask for support when you need it, and just vent when you need to, dear one. Be gentle with yourself - and make sure to surround yourself with the things and people you love. We're all right here, friend... Reach out when you need help, and just take some time and read and read some more. Love, Light and Many Blessings~ Healer My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 218 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,662 Amount Saved: $1013.7 Life Gained: Days: 28 Hrs: 9 Mins: 24 Seconds: 3

Welcome Mary, I hope you find this place a warm and welcoming resource. My advice is to be kind to yourself. You are doing a fantastic thing for yourself. You've obviously suffered quite a loss - addiction will try its best to mimic that loss in order to keep you in its control - keep you coming back to it with whispers of how you need 'it' to get through all of this. Those are lies. You need to make that promise to continue this quit to yourself, for yourself. You are worth it. Here is a post chocked full of great information and THIS thread just has some inspirational quotes help focus when things feel a bit bleak. (fyi, if you don't know, just left click with your mouse on the boldened words 'Here' and 'THIS' and you will automatically go to the thread I'm referencing) I wish you the best, Mary. Please do post up - we're all climbing this mountain. The more, the merrier. keep fightin' the good fight - fish :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 292 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,784 Amount Saved: $1460 Life Gained: Days: 37 Hrs: 20 Mins: 42 Seconds: 29

Hello Mary, You have recieved a lot of good advice here already. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone. I am one of those quitters that went through a lot of ups and downs during my quit. I still have my days but it is so much better now than in those early days. The best thing I can tell you is that it gets so much better if you just hang on. N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever and one step at a time is how we get there. Smoking really will not help anything at all. Take really deep breaths and drink a lot of water. This is a great place to quit. I never would have made it without the good people here. I have made some of the best friends I have ever had through this site. Use these boards and if you have questions, just ask. Even if it about getting around. People will gladly help you out. Be sure to check out the other forums below this one. There is a ton of useful information around here. Welcome to our quit family. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 465 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,319 Amount Saved: $1627.5 Life Gained: Days: 41 Hrs: 1 Mins: 32 Seconds: 24

mary, I'm so sorry for the loss of your husband and of your quit as well. This technology may very well be the thing you need right now to make this quit successful. There's so many good folks here that are willing to lend a hand and good advice. As you may already know, depression is a common phase that people go through when they stop smoking. Most is caused by breaking the mental dependance of smoking and some is an actual chemical imbalance within the brain that's "uncovered" when we quit. With 45 days behind you of no smoking, you may be feeling the depression phase of your quit and it's probably accentuated by your recent loss. If it is a threat to your quit, seems more than you can bear, or if it feels as if it's gone on entirely too long, then I would suggest that you discuss this depression with your physician. Medications can be prescribed for a short term (or longer) to get you over this hurdle. Many people have used "talk therapy" as well. Sometimes just letting it all out helps too, so come hang out with us! You can use the search function to find other threads on this subject. You'll quickly see that this issue is far from uncommon and there's lots of good info. Congratulations on 45 days, mary! Hope to see you on the forum. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 614 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,294 Amount Saved: $2191.98 Life Gained: Days: 65 Hrs: 2 Mins: 9 Seconds: 50

Hi Mary- Your meter looks great. I totally understand the depression issue. I am 32 days into my quit and I am still not completley free of the sadness that comes along with a quit. However I think sometimes when we have to start over on something so hard such as a quit...it is sad. Maybe the process of quitting is bringing back painful memories. Just stay strong.
