Hi Lucy - So glad you came here. You will need lots of support while living with so many Smokers....but you can do it. I think that we all reach a point when we are sick and tired of smoking (my thoughts seemed to be consumed with how to arrange my life around smoking and how much i despised myself for smoking) There are helpful tools on the left side of this page. If you have tried before, I'm sure that you are preparing for the first few days whether is be NRT's, lots of water, tea, naps, walks, gym, bubble baths, sour candy, cinnamon gum, straws or whatever else you need to keep your quit. Post often. Whatever you need there is always somebody willing to help! Hi Lucy - The power of our Quits comes from the inside... YOU can make this your final Quit - you just have to want to quit more than you want to smoke... After that commitment is made, you do the work... And this place and the people in it will stand behind you... You can't try to Quit - you have to DO it each moment, each day - in the tough times and in the tougher times... Spend as much time as possible here and go back and read old posts - that helped me build the most amazing toolbox of coping skills... Stay close and let us know how you're doing... Make sure, too, to protect your Quit w/everything in you each moment... Watch out for triggers... Hi Lucy I can really hear your need and passion to quit. Go for it girl. Remember attitude is really important - rather than think about what you are giving up think about what you are gaining You GAIN freedom from a slavery to cigarettes You GAIN better health You GAIN a sense of control You GAIN in savings You GAIN a sense of belief in yourself. It really is an all round winner. Go for it petal - you are already on your way to being smoke free. You are sooooo right that there is no good time to quit. I smoked for thirty years, twenty of those years I was looking for the right time to quit. On vacation, when I was with non smokers, when I was with smokers, at holidays, when I was 30, 40, 50. finally, like you I just got totally sick of it. And scared because a friend died. I sorta kinda quit and snuck a drag here and there. Then I found this site. I burned every butt. I went through the trash. And then I stopped and never looked back. No matter that my family was in crisis. No matter that my husband and I got into huge fights. No matter that I had to put my mom in an Alzheimer's unit. No matter ANYTHING, I decided, that life was throwing my way. I was quitting no matter what!!!!!!!!!! That was 16 months ago today. The freedom is wonderful, and now I wonder why I waited so long. You can do this. If I could, anyone can. Just stay close and take it one moment at a time. Best wishes. Here I am again trying to quit. I have learned there is no good time to quit smoking. I have new job and I hate it So today I put on the patch. Its going to be very hard because I live with smokers. I want this to happen really bad. I want to be in control of this. I've been smoking since I was 13. I think it has finally caught up with me. I feel sick everytime I smoke. All I can think about now is quitting. I guess thats a good thing.
