Diarrhea, nausea from Lexpro - Anyone else?

Thanks to both of you. I have been seeing a therapist since this all started and it helps alot, but we need to start getting into the cognitive part. We've been working on relaxation. I had my first full night of sleep last night - no jerking, no nausea, no diarrhea. I also went to see a TMJ doc. I was told by my dentist, chiro and natural med doc that I should check into that since alot of my medical problems seem to be related to symptoms of TMJ. I don't have it. He did day I have tense muscles from clenching my jaws and I should wear a guard at night. Then he told me to see a neurologist as did the ENT (sinus doc). I have a referral to have a cervical MRI, but my insurance won't cover it ($1000) and my family MD said to wait until we get the anxiety under control, but my anxiety is caused alot by my symptoms and thinking about the medical stuff. What to do, what to do...

Yeah, it will be nice to see how you do without them, but you might have withdrawal symptoms at first. And if you can stay away from Paxil, then I would. I think it€™s good that you aren€™t just looking for meds for an answer and are trying to find a cure.

Keep us posted as to how you're doing. I don't have all the answers. But if I jerk awake and feel tense, it usually reflects on some stress I've had during the day. Have you thought of seeing a therapist for some extra help to get you off to a better start? Maybe your doctor would refer you. Just a thought.

The MD took me off Lexapro today. Thank you!! I had yet another night of about 5 hours of sleep, then nausea, diarrhea, vomiting. Plus every time I'd fall asleep my whole body would jerk me awake and I'd get sick again. I know it's not anxiety - I was dozing off each time it happens. He said it's obviously too much for my body - I lost 5 lbs. (and I don't need to or want to lose weight as I am on the thin side anyway.) I'm to stay off for 2 weeks and then try Paxil. I asked him if I really needed the drugs and he thought, yes. So we'll see. I'm curious to see how I do off of them (after they're out of my system in 4-5 days) using the Panic Program, my therapy and relaxation methods only. I'd love to not be on this stuff - especially if it makes me feel this bad!

I am following the program and am seeing a therapist. (I'm on the second week of the program.) I've been meditating and listening to relaxation tapes before bed, which definitely help me go to sleep. I'll try the self-talk as well. I definitely want to deprogram this behavior as it sets me up for a bad (sick and tired) day. Thanks!

It's good that you'll be seeing your doctor right away. Are you following the panic program? If not, I encourage you to use it to help improve your situation. Meds will help to a degree, but the panic attacks need to be seen on their own merit, I believe. If you're waking in the night with PAs, a good time to challenge your fears is at bedtime. Examine what kind of self-talk you engage in as you go to bed.

I've been on Lexapro for a month now and I wake up with diarrhea and nausea every day. In the morning, my hands shake, too. I'm on 10 mg per day. I'm seeing the doc Monday, but has anyone else experienced this? It feels like I've had the flu for a month now. My appetite is low and I walk around all day tired and sick. When I called after the first week, the nurse told me it takes 4-6 weeks to get adjusted. Since then, I've tried taking it anywhere from bedtime to 2 hours earlier. I'm so tired of feeling sick and lethargic. I went for weeks without an attack and now they're coming back. I wake up hours earlier than I'm supposed to with diarrhea, pounding heart and stomach cramps. Will this end? I'm sure the diarrhea is a trigger and then I'm just expecting to have an attack. How do I start to counteract this?
