Hi, I have to say that when I was 10 or 11 I went to the cinema with my mum. It got dark and suddenly I felt I needed to get out of there. I still remember I was sure I was going to suffocate. I told Mum about it and we left. Then I started avoiding stuffy cinemas. And there had been some traumatic experiences in my life before! But noone knoew it was panic back then!

I have had depression all of my life just about, but the anxiety wasnt' really a problem for me until 1999. I was 20 years old then. The anxiety developed in 1999 and the panic attacks came just a few months later. Now, I'm 24. I'm still depressed and still anxious all the time. It took me 4 years to seek medical treatment. heh.

Interesting post, I am fairly certain I am the youngest here at age 16, and I know it seems like so many of us began having panic attacks at young ages. For me, the first event I can accurately label a "panic attack" was after I failed a Calculus test. I ran out into the snow, and was hysterical and didn't know what was going on when a senoir student found me. Although that is my first labeled attack, I know there were others before it. Personally, my attacks are linked to OCD. Hope this helped ~Roses

Hello to everyone: This is not to pass judgment on ANYONE, but rather to help me better understand where everyone is coming from. I will first start off by telling all of you my story and then ask my question. The first time I had a panic attack, I was about 12 or 13 years old. I was sitting in a restaurant with my sister, looked up and BOOM! There it was! I didn't know what to do with myself. For many years I would have them day in and day out. Some would last for hours and days and then weeks. It got to the point where I didn't know whether I was coming or going anymore. I went through it all - the unreal feelings, the feeling that I wasn't really here, what's real the what's going to happen to me next, and just really worrying about my health. I don't get it, but hey, it's what happens I guess. But back to my point. What I was wondering is why some of you get them (Panic attacks) so young? It was always my understanding that we have panic attacks because our brains had something traumatic happen to them, something of a shock to the brain that made us like this. Either we have seen something or had something happen to us that was not natural. I went through a lot of **** and have seen a lot of things, a lot of bad things happen like my father beating my mother, my mother then beating my sister, my sister in turn hitting me, my mother getting a new boyfriend who was very verbally abusive towards me, and then it hit me all at once. I just want to know what could give some of you a panic attack at such a young age? I'm not asking because I don't believe you, but rather because I really want to better understand how our minds work and if what I have read in the past was even true.
