Here is my story

Yes I know what made me start after quiting for so long. I was stressed and had fears of failure. The stress was from School I was getting my Master. That I could handle. The fear of failure was I was in a program at work to be come a Black Belt in 2 Sigma. I just did not understand the statistics part of the class and I know I was not going to make it. I had to admit defeat. Something I am not used to doing ever. I have alway been of the opinion that it you put your mind to it you can to it. At least that is what Mom used to say. Eventually 6 months later I opted to drop out of the group. It was valuable but was a hard pill to swallow. Hi I quit smoking 10 days age using NRT. I had just finished with a meeting was ready to leave work to go buy cigarettes when I decided to check the web for help. I happened upon this site and it helped me over the critical urge I was having. I spent an hour looking over the site and reading. I have smoked for 25 years. I started in college due to stress. My friend told me it would help me relax. I did quit for 7 years but went back to smoking 6 years ago. In those 6 years I have been a closet smoker. So I do not have support for friends because they do not know that I smoke or think I quit 14 years ago. I feel so dishonest but frankly I am a masters degree nurse who should know better. But I am also an addict (a human) with a problem. I have seen the benefits in the 10 days- I can walk to my car in the parking lot without feeling short of breath. However my worst symptom this time is I feel very tired-lethargic. I feel depressed in that I do not want to do anything, nothing interest me. (Also does not help we are having a severe heat wave here.) Oh well that is probably not correct. I will eat just fine. I am sleeping pretty well. I am taking the NRT patch off two hours before bed and apply after my shower in the morning. I still feel tired in the morning. My other major problem is my husband also smokes but not in the house. He is banned to the garage. My husband is supportive but not outwardly. I think he will go to his grave smoking a cigarette. I really want this to work. I guess I just need someone to listen to me whine. WOW! Good going ont he 10 days! I'm jealous. You know, what you are feeling now are mostly just urges... the craves will be over soon. Don't risk going back? You'll just have to start all over agian because you'll never be able to get away with smoking for the rest of your life. the health problems it will cuase will require surgeries and you'll need the lung cappacity for that, and then you'll be sick and going through withdrawals and who needs that? Keep reading and make this an educated quit. Write down how you felt on those first three days of the quit and how you feel now, so you don't forget and feel invincible later on. Make a list of what you liked and what you hated about being a smoker.. be very specific. Like "Hiding my adiction from my freinds" "sneeking aorund on my lunch hour" "Not being able to go out and do things with my friends without wishing I could smoke" etc. etc. Those are just some ideas that I got from reading your post. I'm sure you have many more. Feeling down is also very normal... some people feel like they are greiving the loss. This too, will pass! NOPE- Not One Puff Ever. Congrats on ten days!!! I'm envious, I've got 5 days. I understand the depression,I also feel like I've lost my best friend. I live with my sister,a smoker, but this is my quit and it is personal. I own it. Maybe if she sees me suceed she will try but that is her choice not mine. This site has helped me so much, stay with us and let us know how your doing. :) Auntie My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 219 Amount Saved: $44 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 14 Mins: 11 Seconds: 36

Broomsdrew, way to go 10 days, quite an achievement, can't tell you what to do about friends not knowing( are you sure they don't know?)As for being tired that is normal and also, depressed, this will pass. Do you know what made you start smoking again after such a long period? Just to make sure you are prepared if this situation comes up again. Protect your quit, be prepared read a lot of documentation this site is such a help, also use the tools on the left, they will help you greatly. Keep up the good fight :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 553 Amount Saved: $144 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 20 Mins: 42 Seconds: 18

Broom, We are always here for you! Welcome to our support community and thanks for sharing your story with us. The members have been where you are and can help make this your last quit! Take the time to use the program and it's tips, tools and knowledge to assist you through those tough times. This is your quit and you must protect it at all costs. Your symptoms will be unique and we can help :) Remember if you experience a symptom longer than expected than contact your doctor to rule out anything medical. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of your past history, and when you stop smoking the symptoms may abruptly become noticeable. Thanks for making the choice to come here instead of buying cigarettes! Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
