Good for you not smoking in a stressful situation. Check out the Rainbow Bridge a site for those who lost a pet. judy My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 205 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,345 Amount Saved: $410 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 13 Mins: 42 Seconds: 58

I'm so sorry to hear that, Cybrduke. It's never a good time to lose a beloved pet, and during your daughter's birthday party is just awful. I'm might proud of you for getting through like you did. There is that silver lining, slim as it may be. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 490 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,809 Amount Saved: $1862 Life Gained: Days: 91 Hrs: 10 Mins: 30 Seconds: 25

There is always a silver lining - I agree. The cat is no longer suffering, I am no longer smoking. The me of 200 days ago would have smoked two packs that night. Easily. Life goes on. It's so much better without the smoking. Cigarettes Not Smoked

I hit 200 days on Saturday. Saturday was also my little girls 14th birthday. We had a house full of people, it was a good time. It was early afternoon and I noticed the cat was not acting right. I took the cat back to my bedroom he collapsed and was panting. I took the cat to the emergency vet and found out he had heart failure and his lungs were full of fluid. The vet said there was a lot of damage and that the cat had advanced heart disease. The cat was 3 years old. I had to put the cat down and return to my daughters birthday party and deliver that piece of news to everyone. Needless to say it put a damper on things. It was very unexpected and we never saw it coming. All the excitement must have been the last straw for the cat, its poor little heart just gave out. This was one of the most stressful situations I have been in since I quit. It was not easy saying goodbye to the cat and patting its head as it went to sleep for the last time. It never occured to me to smoke or even desire one. I think like a non smoker now. Cigarettes are not part of my reaction to stress anymore. I'm going to miss that cat - it was a good cat. A himalayan. Very pretty cat. I don't miss the old habit of smoking. Not even a little any more. I am a non-smoker. Cigarettes Not Smoked

It's true what you are all echoing back - at some point the thought of a cigarette does not pop into your head. The idea of smoking a cigarette right now seems alien to me. I saw a piece on the news this morning about the lawsuit against the tobacco companies because they misled people about light cigarettes... They showed people smoking again and again. They looked foolish. They are advertising their addiction to the world everytime they light up. I felt bad for them, especially the young ones. I'm proud to say I've beat the addiction. I am a non-smoker, no matter what life throws at me.
