NORMAL???

Was very similiar to you in timespan on my previous quits. Hardly coughed at all once I quit, but approximately 2 wks into the quit, I would have a 2-3 day period of getting uncontrollable coughing fits. Always dry coughs, just seemed to be an ongoing tickle. Was quite embarassing since they always seemed to start while I was at work on the phone! It all passed after a few days. I expect I'll probably go through it again on this quit (my FINAL quit). After looking at what others have said, seems there is no set pattern in timeline or 'kind'. Hang in there & 13 DAYS FREE OF SMOKE IS GREAT! This is good to know. Before i stopped smoking, my lungs were/are so bad, that even when i sat for awhile without coughing you could hear all the junk in my lungs. It was gross and embarresing. Within 48 hours of not smoking that was one of the first things I noticed. Even tried making myself cough. No nasty sounds! Infact coughing makes me smile now. But i was wonderering how it could just fanish so quick. Guess i may have even more surpises. Correen

I wish when I coughed it was more productive ... it scares me for that crap to still be in my lungs. I wish I could cough it all out. I get so pissed off at myself for smoking all those years. How addicted ... how blind I was ... *shakes head* My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 39 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,186 Amount Saved: $156 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 7 Mins: 51 Seconds: 40

Cheermom, Everybody's quit is different, look at this as a positive. You can try to sit in the steam to help it along. If your cough worsens, consult your MD to be on the safe side. Danielle _____________________________ The SSC Support Team

Ok, I'm going strong on my quit that comes with the normal ups and downs. I wake up on day 13 and I NOW have a cough.....I figured I would've hacked my lung up within a couple days of quiting. It feels like the cough is coming from my chest (the kind of coughs I got when I had a chest cold) and I'm definitely not enjoying this. Please enlighten me. I knew I would get some coughing to clear out all the crud that has built up with my dirty habit but geesh, this caught me off guard. Kim PS Oh still going strong (2 nights that were great for me) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 333 Amount Saved: $52.65 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 4 Mins: 15 Seconds: 20

Thanks Butterfly Swimmer. I even bumped it (the Brown Crud) as it really enforced my quit (ewww) and made my stomach stronger to reading the bad things I've done to myself (smoking that is). Unfortunately the manufacturers of cigs dont mention the after affects of smoking. Shame on them. cheermom, Totally normal. Read this thread. You're not alone. It's the cilia in your lungs getting all of the crap out of your lungs. It's totally OK. However, if it keeps going or gets really bad, you might want to talk to a doctor. Crave the Quit!
