Fear of disease

22 years ago 0 11 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Jen, I've become a hypochondriac recently and I think I've believed I have every disease in the book over the last few months. The mind is very powerful and everyone in this forum knows that, I wouldn't worry to much in your case. Stay positive and I know that is easier said then done but we can either be positive or negative in fears such as yours. Your welcome to talk with me anytime you need since I'm in a very similar situation so don't hesitate to ask.

Dear Wannabeme, I am a Christian - and, am assuming you are, also. I like what you said about we will go to great beyond in His time not ours! Let go and Let God, I agree. However, we all know that while we are having a full blown panic attack and have stayed in our houses, perhaps, for five days straight; just knowing that the absolute moment we step out the door 'something totally freaky will happen - we will immediately panic go out of control, everything will be distorted, we will 'certainly' go 'insane' and all the while the neighbors are watching and are saying, "...we knew all the while she/he/they were weirdos..." So, we rush back in our safe house. Just kidding, of course. I think daily affirmations are really good. One could say to one's self, "I am just fine. I am healthy. I am doing the best I can. God loves me. I am 'not' going to die from a panic attack - I will work as hard as I can to try and get a handle on this thing and be proud of myself for what ever progress I make - even if it is just to get out of the house and walk half way down the street and back. I am doing just fine!" Bye for now, Maria

I would agree with wannabeme because it is a joke around my house too. I love the show ER, always have, no don't get me wrong I do not think that I have everything that comes into the ER. But recently they added a cast member who has Parkinson and I have been thinking for a while now that maybe I have it because I do shake a lot. I know that it is completely irrational so I try to think nothing of it. I think that is the way to get through it, by knowing that it is irrational and that you really aren't going to get cancer from the CT scan. I have had them and I am fine :)

Hi there. I get afraid of the same kinds of things. Its somewhat of a family joke around here... everytime I hear about a new disease I am worried that I have it...I think I focus so much on my body that I make myself panic...for me since I really feel that these things are possible, it helps to try to let go. I have never been really religious, but I am beginning to find an inner peace and spirituality with my panic/anxiety disorder. I just try to tell myself that god has put me on this earth and god will take me from this earth when he sees fit...not when I see fit... and probably not in the manner I see fit... and when I can turn over that control to god I tend to feel a little bit better... I still have panic attacks, but they arent as bad ~ I still worry about disease, but I dont let it ruin my whole day... I worry about alot of things, but letting someone else control them, like god, helps me to relax and let go. hehe... it also helps me to know that I'm not alone. For me, reading posts on this site is like air to a drowning person. good luck.

Hi, Jen. Challenging your anxious thoughts is what our panic program is all about. Look through the material on the site, use the free panic diary to record your panic attacks and fearful thoughts. -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Hi, I just joined after searching for message boards pertaining to anxiety disorders. I've been in a continuous anxious, panic state for the past few days now. In the past I would get episodes of anxiety or depression, but this time it's been the worst ever for me. I had a CT scan recently, and since then I've worried about my getting cancer from the radiation exposure. I'm not convinced I'm going to die from it soon. I've always been a hypochondriac, so this is really hard on me. Can anyone relate to how I feel? How do you deal with constant anxiety over these thoughts? I'm so depressed right now, it seems like the end of the world for me. Any suggestions?
