Morning drives with my better half have become dreaded.

You're on day six...It's hell week. This is when you need to be your toughest because if you get through it you'll be rewarded with less cravings and feeling better. It's what I've experienced to date. Of course I sitting here chomping on my gum so hard my jaw aches, but it's better than last week. Are you on the patch? Den - I'm sure there will be lots of better advice...but I do remember times when it seemed unbearable. At some point you will travel from unbearable to exhilarated to depressed to angry to exhilarated back to a moment of unbearable followed by moments of normalcy to irritated to happy to sad to happier (oops, a little more unbearable) followed by some normal..... And I'm not sure where it goes from there...I'm only on day 29. I just know that I did whatever I could to survive those unbearable days which included drinking lots of water, green tea, eating enormous amounts of sour candy, chewing gum endlessly and crawling into bed as soon as it was possible. I know others have used straws, cinnamon sticks and numerous other tools. The good news is that unbearable doesn't last forever! Sending you strength and good wishes from Canada...... [Q]Hi all since my final attempt to quit I find the morning commute to be almost unbearable. Seems headaches or head games from the nico deamon have been been making rational thought extremly difficult.[/Q] Can't say that any of this went on during my morning commute because I haven't been to work since I quit. However, headaches were definately a problem for me in the beginning. What I did was to find something to distract me. For me it was easy because I was home and could find all kinds of distractions. For you it won't be that easy. My suggestion would be to use some kind of sugar free candy. The only reason I suggest sugar free is because I used regular after dinner mints to soothe my cravings but gained a fair amount of weight because of it. Anyway, that's what helped me but again, I wasn't commuting to work. I wish you luck and stick it out, it is well worth it! Den-How's your better half (your term) making it through these drives? LOL Tell you what---I'll endure your spouse during the morning drives, and you take my husband in the morning while he is eating cereal! Take it easy..and...take it one day at a time (Marie's saying). :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,698 Amount Saved: $264 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 11 Mins: 52 Seconds: 56

HI Den, take along that bottle of water and do your deep breathing!!!! Driving itself these days can be a real character builder. Stay focused on your reasons for quitting and repeat them to yourself when necessary and out loud if need be. Take good care of yourself and try maybe having some fruit for breakfast (take a baggie of grapes, cherries, etc) with you on the road to stave off any craving. Den, What are you doing during this morning commute? Can you read, file your nails, listen to music? Do something that will sooth you and push those craves out :) We are here to help! Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
