cravings suck

I have a good many reasons to keep the quit alive. Its just very hard to deal with the cravings I have found better ways so far, sleep is good, hehe. Is it cravings or withdrawls? Someone told me that withdrawls can last for up to 2 weeks for some people, is this at all true? Well either way gonna do it head on. I am going threw more in the past two weeks than at any time in my life. I thought that if I could give up smoking it would give me a reason to feel some happiness in such a rotten time in my life. Cravings sometimes to me seem like voices tryin to tell me what to do, either that or I am losing my mind. But Im on day 4 smoke free.. You're right..cravings do suck! There really is a "hell" week and a "heck" week. At the beginning, I think you need to fight with all of your strength, take care of yourself, get lots of rest, distract, and hang on while you take comfort in the fact that they will get better. Rockyroad, I definitely used sleep to combat cravings. Nites were hard, so instead of staying up wishing I could smoke, I just went to bed, or watched tv in bed. Whatever works for you. You have a great attitude, that will get you far. Pamper yourself, don't forget the small rewards for after cravings. You are right on target Rockyroad---a couple of days ago I posted that if you are hearing voices you are either quitting smoking or schizophrenic. The two are very similar in the first week! Nicotine, which causes physical addiction, withdrawals usually take around 3 days to get past. The other chemicals (4,000) take longer to get out of your system. After the physical withdraws are over, it's all mental. You've smoked for a long time. It is only natural for you to have memories of smoking. When a thought pops into your head use your coping skills that you've learned (quit program tools to the left of your screen). Eventually, the longer you go without a smoke, the memories will start to fade. At four months I do not have craves. I do however still have 'thoughts/memories'. I probably think about smoking once every 2 to 3 days now. But it is a fleeting thought. Or it is the 'subject of smoking' ... like right now while I am typing this to you. Not smoking makes my life so much better. Keep at it. You are doing great. Don't give in. You are not giving up anything by quitting. You are GIVING yourself the gift of life and freedom. Hi Rocky... In the beginning the cravings/withdrawals seem almost impossible to get through but you can do it. Hang on tight. Quitting can be one heck of a ride. One morning you will wake up and not even think about smoking. As time goes on, your quit will get so much easier. For most of us, the quit is something we have to work hard for but anything worth having is worth working for. You will not regret quitting. Everything in my life was falling apart when I quit as well. Now I live in an entirely different world. I highly recommend you hang in there! Post when you need to, that is why we are here. Hi, Rockyroad. Cravings are one symptom of withdrawals. When they take the form of voices we call them "junkie thoughts". Don't put a time frame or a deadline on quitting. It takes as long as it takes. Some have it quite easy, some don't. But for everyone, it does get better if you just wait it out. Congratulations on 4 smoke-free days, Rockyroad.
