Princess..We are at about the same spot..I quit the 10th. I know exactly what you are going thru but I refuse to pick one up this time. I feel like I am having an asthma attack about half and need to use my inhaler but I am really breathing better than I have in months. Anyhow..Good Luck!! I hope we both can do this!!

Hi Golden Paws, I refuse to go back to smoking. Thinking about how it used to make me feel is enough to deter me. Im finding that my moods fluctuate through the day at the moment but reading posts here i understand that, that is to be expected and its a withdrawl. Please keep me up to date with your progress. Keep other things around instead of cigarettes. Try carrots, pickles, sunflower seeds, apples, celery, raisins, or sugarfree gum. Wash your hands or the dishes when you want a cigarette very badly. Or take a shower. Learn to relax quickly by taking deep breaths. Take 10 slow, deep breaths and hold the last one. Then breathe out slowly. Relax all of your muscles. Picture a soothing, pleasant scene. Just get away from it all for a moment. Think only about that peaceful image and nothing else. Light incense or a candle instead of a cigarette. Where you are and what is going on can make you crave a cigarette. A change of scene can really help. Go outside, or go to a different room. You can also try changing what you are doing. No matter what, don't think, "Just one won't hurt." It will hurt. It will undo your work so far. Remember: Trying something to beat the urge is always better than trying nothing. Cigarettes Not Smoked

PrincessC, If you smoked when you were stressed, you now have to learn how to cope with stress without this coping mechanism. To cope with stressful times, some people have chosen to keep a journal or walk away from the situation for five minutes. Others choose to learn and utilize relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation or deep breathing. The flip side to this is some people get their anger and frustration out by getting active: a run, a walk, kick boxing, aerobics, dance class... Some phone a friend, others post here, put on their favorite song and scream it out, punch pillows, adopt a mantra like N.O.P.E. ... whatever works for you. Just don't smoke. You can do this! Keep persevering! Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

It is all part of the quit process. You are beating an addiction. You body is going through a lot right now, both physically and emotionally. Be strong. You are stronger than the addiction. You have made the choice to quit smoking. Stand by that choice and don't let yourself down. Be sure to take a lot of deep breaths. They really help. Don't think of this quit in terms of forever. Get through the next five minutes and when you are finished with that, begin the next five. Remember N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever). That is how we all quit. One step at a time. You are doing great. Hang on tight!
