Depression?

18 years ago 0 26 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Really glad you started this thread. I was going to but felt so crappy I couldn't get it together to do so. I too am going through a depressed time. I had experience with it about three years ago, and was able to ween myself from Lexapro after about two years. I was glad I found the drug when I really needed it, but was equally glad to get off it. Now I'm on my second week, and had an absolutely anxious/sad weekend. Whenever I start losing the ability to sleep through the night I start feeling depressed. With the "quit" that's the cycle I'm in, and I hate it. The weird thing is that I don't really feel like smoking. I think I would feel worse mentaly if I had one. The one thing I learned from my earlier experience is to get the needed help ASAP. So I made an appointment to talk to the Doc. Hopefully, this will all pass and I can return to enjoying not smoking... For me, depression has come and gone during this quit but I have experienced prolonged depression in the past (and surprise, surprise - it was the result of ending an unhealthy relationship) I put up with that depression and anxiety for so long that it just got worse and worse until I was barely able to function. When I finally was prescribed medication, it was like the light turned on. I couldn't believe that I had put up with being so depressed for so long. I would never hesitate to recommend seeing a Doctor for antidepressants. It made the world of difference for me. My only advice would be to remember that it usually takes approximately 3 weeks to feel the effect. Also, don't hesitate to talk to your doctor if you think the medication is not right for you...our bodies all react differently. If you were diabetic, you wouldn't hesitate to take insulin. Please don't hesitate to do whatever you need to do to keep yourself healthy. Take care Windy My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 35 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 716 Amount Saved: $175 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 9 Mins: 32 Seconds: 39

Freebird, Please know that you are not alone in this fight. I lost several quits over depression. It REALLY helps me to know that this is one of the symptoms of the quit. I can get through this when I know its only temporary. I try to stay cheerful and upbeat but there are times when I have no ambition to do more than I have to. Only temporary...only temporary. Hang in there, Freebird, it really does get better. Time is the greatest healer of all. I understand!! I see my Doc more now that I quit smoking. Talk and work things out with your Dr and find out what works best for you!!! I have been through several SSRI's over the years and what works for some does not work for others!!! I am on Lexapro is working well for me at this time. Make sure you are eating right, getting a work out in and just taking care of yourself. You are not weak by needing some help, you are just wanting a better life for yourself!!! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,413 Amount Saved: $196 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 13 Mins: 10 Seconds: 19

This stinks. The mood I have been in has not been a pleasant one at all. Haven't jumped down anyone's throat, but on the verge. Nothing but tiredness, irritability, and lack of motivation to do anything. Staying in bed and being left alone sounds like the only good idea at this time. Unfortunately with a family and work that is not an option. Tried with and without the patch, mood is still gloomy, kinda like a cold, rainy day. After the weekend I had, which wasn't horrible, I decided to call my Doc and go see him on Wed 1st thing. Earliest I can get in there. I am not a huge fan of being medicated, but after reading some posts on here and searching the internet about depression, I feel I am headed on a collision course with either a major run in with anyone that might say the wrong thing and jump down someone's throat and/or some type of breakdown. So medication is probably going to be the way to go whether it's zyban, wellbutrin or electric shock therapy(LOL). Trying to find some light heartedness in the darkness at this time. Seriously, I am sure my Doc will put me on something. Anything anyone has had success and or failure with any meds they may have took to fight this would be appreciated so I know what I am up against here. Reading articles on the different meds only goes so far compared to real person experience. I am not asking for advice, as I will go with what ever my Doc prescribes, just experiences both good and bad. I am so glad this site exists to be able to discuss these type of real world experiences. Trish, 4my2girls, shevie Thank you for your input. Just receiving your stories has already lifted up my spirits for the time being just knowing that I am not the first and positive that I won't be the last to go through this. Hoping I can get through these next two days without causing a ruckus with someone before I go see the Doc. My wife has already told me to do something about my mood. She supports me 100 percent in this quit, except for my mood in the last 3 or 4 days. She told me to go get help or to start smoking again. She is one of easiest going persons that I know, and for her to make a statement like that, I know there is something wrong with my attitude that she is seeing. I don't see it but yet I feel the edginess, solitude and distance. I am standing at the fork in the road. Hopefully the Doc can keep on the road to freedom. I am not sure who started the saying on here, but know that has been carried through many a posts that knowledge is power in beating this addiction. I am taking this as another stepping stone and a bump in the road. Reading and posting on here will be a huge help in getting me through this time until I can get to the Doc's Freebird~'~ My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 678 Amount Saved: $92.4 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 8 Mins: 37 Seconds: 7
