Hi friends, There were 4 smokers at our office: - Five years ago, "A" decided to quit, cold turkey. He really had a hard time, but finally he made it, and never looked back since then. - Three years ago, "B" also decided to quit, using NRT patches. He was successful, but recently, due to some problems in his family, he resumed smoking! - Myself, I tried several times to quit, cold turkey, NRT gums, Zyban, ... without any success. The longest period I could abstain from smoking was 6 months! However, two months ago, I decided to give it a go -- this time with the help of an NRT inhaler and NRT lozenges. So far so good! :) When "A" knew that I decided to quit smoking again, he was very happy, and gave me some tips. When I told him that I had an urge and craving to smoke after a big meal, he bought a jar of Chinese chili paste for me, and told me to use it extensively with food. Oh boy! It was very hot, and it worked! I did not have any craving for cigarette after tasting that hot chili paste! :) For "B", on knowing that I'm quitting, he also joined me, and is doing okay ... - The last one, "C", still smokes, but he always checks out my progress ... I guess that in few more months, when he sees my success, he will also quit smoking! :) So, is quit smoking easy or hard? Well, I don't know! For me, it's not that easy, but I'm determined to succeed this time! :) Cheers, NMC My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 49 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 493 Amount Saved: $245 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 3 Mins: 56 Seconds: 45

Danielle, I planned to have a reward at Day 40 (my $200 milestone), but has decided to defer to Day 60 ($300 milestone), the reason being I 'm looking for a new digital camera and accessories, for my next overseas trip, within the $300 price range! :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 49 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 500 Amount Saved: $245 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 6 Mins: 48 Seconds: 1

Yeah, it's very hot stuff! I think he got it from an Asian supermarket. Looks like chopped and fried chili in oil (with the smell and taste of garlic, onion, and other stuff ....). You can have it with bread, pasta, bolied potatoes, steak, etc .... One small spoon is more than enough to blow your mouth and subsequently blow out all cravings for cigarette!!! :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 51 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 513 Amount Saved: $255 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 12 Mins: 51 Seconds: 51

Spicy food releases endorphins (to help deal with the pain i think..lol)....maybe this is why? Thanks for sharing NMC. Hopefully "C" will join you all soon. Am fascinated by the Chinese chili paste thing. Never heard of that before. What is it? Like a type of pepper paste? Do you make it or find it in the usual supermarket? Rob47 - you experienced the same relief but with any kind of highly spicey food? I'm kinda lucky that I don't have cravings after eating anymore but have never heard of the spicey food thing. Curiosity got the best of me on this one. Interesting NMC. I'm going to check that Chinese chili paste out. I'll let you know when it knocks me off my chair. :) Ericon My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 59 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,065 Amount Saved: $427.75 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 15 Mins: 10 Seconds: 53
