Cigarettes Not Smoked

I tried to quit years ago, and I found that having people smoking at work, in restaurants, and yes, even while grocery shopping (the olden days!) really distracted me from my quit. I'm so thankful that nowadays you have to go out of your way as you go about your business to be faced with second hand smoke. I am trying to not feel sorry for myself, or hard done by (that nasty little monster just keeps on trying). I visualize every craving as Ole Nic's death cries..getting fewer and weaker as time goes by. I run on the spot when it's really bad, envisioning stomping on that nasty little creature. I sing a little song.."Got along without you before I met you, gonna get along without you now". Good Morning. I'm just on my way outdoors to plant tulip bulbs. I've been very busy the last week, and Dentyne Ice is my new best friend. I'm going cold turkey, 4th serious attempt at quitting. DETERMINED describes me, or mad granny. I want to enjoy my grandchildren, fly on planes, enjoy eating, just generally live life without a ball and chain dragging me down. I think I can remember being 14 years old and just living..feeling normal through the day without craving anything except maybe a cold coca-cola. Trying to acheive that level of zen once more. Hope to meet some friends as I go through the next levels of non-smoking. I am also new in my quit, but this is not the first time, but I'm bound and determined to make it the last one. 17 days for me, and I'm doing good. The thing that gets me through is knowing that I'm an addict and that I cannot feed this addiction (not even one), I read a lot of posts but don't respond to a lot. It's been said before and I'll say it again....KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!! I wish everyone much success. We take it one day, one hour, one minute, one second at a time...whatever it takes, just don't smoke, (N.O.P.E.)!! We are all in this together!! Hi Kenny your right cigs. are dope the worst ever and we do have to treat recovery in the same way as junks one second, one min, one hour, one day at a time I am 24 days free and fighting the demons in my head and sucking on popsicles and lollypops etc,, anything but a smoke it's hard but coming here helps a lot. Keep up the fight I beleive you can do it. Puffree46

Hello Sparkey156 I know what your talking about! The battle that goes on in your mind.. like in the Flintstones cartoones, on one side you have the little angel telling you that your doing great! On the outher side you have the devil telling you come on stop torchering yourself have one...! But you know ya have to listen to the angel cause the angel loves you and wants you to be around for your boys and be an example to them. I'm sorry I didn't quit a long time ago cause I feel guilty now because my son and daughter both smoke I hope and pray that my quiting will help them to quit! Puffree46 ,,, 24 days quit and still going strong

Hello fellow quitters: I would like to introduce myself. I am a 43 year old mom of two boys, ages 15 and 11, who has an intense desire to see them grow up and to be around for their children (this is my motivation). Today is my first day without cigarettes. Upon awakening this morning, my sick mind told me "Ya know, you can go out on the deck and have a cigarette and no one would know!" I was floored at my addictive mind. I am sure that today there will be many moments when I will need to tell the committee in my head to just shut up! I have had a few moments here at work where I really just wanted to run outside and smoke, but I don't have any cigarettes! I just keep telling myself that I can do this one minute at a time. The cravings are not physical, but it's a mental obsession. It's terrifying to me to do this. I have smoked for 31 years and don't have a clue as to how to live without cigarettes. I feel like a toddler. I look forward to your feedback. Sparkey156 from Connecticut.

Hello, today is my first day smoke free. I spent my usual $4.20 on gum and hard candy this morning. Boy that felt good. I broke the remainder of my pack and tossed them. I'd like to thank everyone for your words of wisdom and encouragement.I've smoked a pack a day for over 10 years, so I know this going to be rough. Thank you! Today is the start of my 3rd day! This is the longest I have been without cigarette in 26 years! I feel this site is wonderful and has helped me a lot. I do get scared when I read some of the post but I think if I have gone 2 full days without a smoke then I can go the rest of my longer life. Thanks again My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 70 Amount Saved: $20 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 19 Seconds: 47
