I think whatever money you spend to quit smoking is an investment in your future. Grace

I'm trying to decide whether to expand my cable TV or get Netflix. I even thought about taken a trip to the Sierra Nevadas or Big Sur. If I had the money to smoke (I'm currently wondering how I had it), then I've got the money to reward myself. Yeah, Shaila, rewards can be small, too. It's sort of weird, though, because I live in San Francisco. So a trip here to see the ocean, or hang at Fisherman's Wharf, or China Town... isn't a reward. And good food is so easy to come by and being a homey I know where the cheap good food is located. A bunch of us from my live group did talk about touring the city at night as a treat. It can be so beautiful on the cable cars... after dark. But in this city, rent eats up almost all of my money. I've tried leaving it, but always end up right back here. Misty, I don't think that the "experts" realize that most smokers make sacrifices, so when we quit, there oftentimes isn't any money, because there never really was any. I would buy and hock, buy and hock, buy and hock. I never really owned anything. Now I'm wondering why I'm not willing to put the same effort into affording my rewards. My mantra lately has been: God helps those who help themselves, largely because I'm begging for money. I figure how can I beg for money while spending over $200 a month on cigarettes. I have to show my creditors that i am willing to just pay for the bear necessities. And I have a ramen backup. Couldn't get through it without laughing, but I know what you mean though. I think there were times that I did not go grocery shopping. I always kept a ration of Ramen Noodles in the house--an emergency supply. Still do. It always struck me that I was awfully heavy for someone who ate one meal a day and drank juices or kool-aid the rest of the day. But I was better at rationing things back then. Ciagrettes were apart of my budget. Clothing I could pickup at Thrift Town. I allowed myself to smoke because it was like me and my ciggies. Like I tried to explain to a nonsmoker today: I thought cigarettes are sexy. You'd have to be some type of an addict to really understand that. Is it just possible that we just needed less when we smoked? That we didn't need the flowers, the extra food, the walks to Starbucks, the relaxation classes... That maybe we did have more money. We were just happy with a pack and didn't need to buy anything else. I mean I don't intend to romanticize it, becaue I believe in the long run, we will actually have more money. In the past (last quit) I remember actually always having a bank account and money for clothes, vacations...which I had never had before. It was strange. I just think that quitting smoking costs money, but once your quit really gets going the price drop significantly. I am wondering how I had the money to smoke as welll - In fact, my finaces seem in worse shape now than hey were when i smoked. I have considered starting again just so that i'd have some money again. This is the strangest phenomenon of all, I swear. I am still wanting to go back to the hotel that hubby and i stayed at when we got married and ahve dinner at the restaurant there, but it's looking like that is just going to keep getting pushed further and further away. Anyhow - I've been buying fresh flowers for myself every couple of days.. i gt them on sale and only spnd about 5 dollars every few days on them, and they smell good and I enjoy them a ton.
