100 days and still struggling

I'm glad you posted sickofsmelling!!! What is going on?? Is it your thoughts?? Are you always thinking of smoking?? Or are you "wishing" you were smoking?? As far as the thoughts go, well, you have to let them go. Accept the fact that you do not smoke anymore. "Romantizing" your old smoking habit will only make it harder. Instead of remember how you enjoyed smoking, try to remember how it made you feel. Run down, maybe a hacking cough, smelly, feeling like an outcast, mad at yourself for continuing to harm yourself, getting wrinkles, etc..... There are so many bad things to remember about smoking. Look up some pictures on the internet. I did, and one picture stands out in my mind. I now know exactly what I was doing each and every time I inhaled. Seeing it is much more believable than just knowing, or having someone tell you. The graphic picture of a lung, or someone actually taking their last breath, well, it is a picture I will never forget. Tell me a little more about your struggle!!! I will help you through this, we all will. The important thing is that you reached out to us!! ;) 4my2girls What Consumes Your Thoughts Controls Your Life My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 95 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,863 Amount Saved: $310.65 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 16 Mins: 15 Seconds: 59

First of all Congrats on getting this far!!! Trust me, I know....March 6th quit date. You are NOT alone. We are all together and we can do it. One friend told me that the only way to beat this addiction is to starve it. That kinda helps me get through the cravings. Good Luck to you and I will see you on the beach!!:) Marlene

Hi All- I have been reading posts on a daily basis and doing so has helped enormously. It is so important to know that we are not alone. But, I am still struggling alot. My quit date is March 1st and I am grateful that I am not smoking. I was a smoker for 40 years and it was so time to quit. I just wish these cravings would go away. I hope there is some light at the end of the tunnel. This is the hardest thing I have ever done. Thanks for letting me vent. Jan

Thanks to all- especially Lady. I just wanted to know that others have been there too. I am protecting my quit but it is a struggle. I also believe that This Too Shall Pass. Thanks

Hi Jan - Right around my 100 day mark when I was so excited about going to the beach it seemed like all I could think about is having a cig. The feeling passed - but not without some angst on my part. Now at 107 days I don't know what happened but I haven't thought about smoking for the last 3-4 days. I even went to dinner last night with some friends for a birthday and when the smokers got up to go outside to smoke I felt so sorry for them because they had to leave a fun, fun time to go kill themselves slowly. Alot of us go through this rough patch around this time -there a many posts about it - so you are not alone! Jan, do you think that you are struggling with lack of positive thoughts? I am wondering because my quit date is on Sunday and I think learning from someone as seasoned as you could help us newbies out a lot.

Hi sickofsmelling How ya doing... Gee I hope your not sick of smelling Roses... as they are just about to bloom here in Northern NY. I was reading through some post... and thought I would add my 2 sents... smelling good here. giggle.... I did have to try the patch. It worked for me... for what I needed. I used it for maybe all of 2 weeks..... I started with the 24 hr 21 mil... after a week I cut the thing in half... as it was clear I didn't need the heavy one. I did well with half the patch as well... But in that short time.. I experienced comfort.. stress free discussions... It didn't take long to see the change in energy levels without the smoke in my lungs. Once I saw how great my lungs felt.. and how energized I was after not depleating my oxegin levels.. I got a bit ticked off... and took off the patch... and didn't put another on. Using the patch for just 2 weeks.. showed me my the future and I loved it !!! I want the nicotine out of my body... so every time I feel... what some refer to as cravings.. I am soooooo thankful.... because it's not cravings. It's my body healing. For myself... I think If I didn't give the patch a try... I wouldn't have been saying this. I most likely wouldn't even be in the forum. The key thing was... the patch. It was like a sneak preview into heaven... It proved my hands wouldn't fall off with a cigg in it. That I could sit without feeling I should be in a straight jacket.. I wasn't bored. I had more energy than I did in a long time.. So... Now I knew... to take off the patch. My body is still healing. Healing is a positive thing. It's what I want most. For sure... your not alone.....

Jan.. I too was one of those 100+ day strugglers. You are not alone, trust me. I know the feeling of everyone else to be having an easier time and just rolling through the quit without much difficulty at all. I also know the feeling of "what is wrong with me?" Nothing is wrong with you. Everyone's quit is different. I struggled with my quit for a long time and there are still days that are tough although at this point the are few and far between. I will tell you there are other quitters who have been through the same too. I guess for some of us it just takes us a little longer. I really don't know why, but it probably doesn't really matter. Keep taking it one day at a time. You will get there. I know it seems like forever but it really isn't. The freedom is awesome. You've come too far to turn back now. Protect your quit at all costs. I hope this helps. sickofsmelling, First, I want to say.... I LOVE your name! :) Second, the 100 day mark is a tough one to get through. For some reason, virtually every quitter goes through a rough period around that time where they think about giving in... some actually do. But hang in there... as you know, it does pass. I too am one of those who struggled far past 100 days, and still now. Some have an easier time of their quits, but not me! So I fully understand what you are going through! Just believe that it will get better... it does. It sounds like you're due a reward... have you rewarded yourself lately? Have you shown your body and mind that quitting is GOOD for you and not giving something up? If not, I think it's time for a nice reward... they don't have to be expensive, but they do have to be things that you really enjoy. Have a great day and don't forget to reward yourself! Crave the Quit! Hang in there! You are so right, this too will pass. Just like Lady, I was one of those that experienced the cravings, stray thoughts, demon-calls, whatever you want to call them, for a very long time. I still have a stray thought every now and then, but they are much less intense, pass quickly, and are far fewer than I could have dreamed. I now think of those stray thoughts as ammunition in my determination to stay quit. It is so much better now. I can go days without having a "thought". I wish I could say when it got better for me, but I don't know. All the work has been soooooo worth it. I never want to go through the beginning again, so like you, I know I can never take even one puff. The N.O.P.E. motto is for me. (Not One Puff Ever) Keep up the great work. You're doing wonderfully. Congratulations.
