Quitting Question

18 years ago 0 3368 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Ditto to what Mira said. Quit now ... get through the hardest part ... keep that motivation momentum going ... start preparing for how you will handle mental cravings/temtations now. Believe you are strong enough to not want to smoke and to have a better life and you will. Whatever you decide ... we are all here to support each other in our quits whether they are today or tomorrow. Cigarettes Not Smoked

My advice is to quit NOW. Motivation does not come around all the time. You are in for a long ride, better to quit now and feel strong before your friends arrive. When they do come see you, watch them and instead of envying that they are smoking, realize that they are drug addicts, slaves to nicotine and they cannot enjoy themselves without it. Watch the smokers, how closely they huddle together when non-smokers are around. Watch how uncomfortable they are when they can't smoke. Look at how they do not feel confident when they remember they are holding a cig. Be strong now. If you have the motivation to quit now, grasp it and go for it. Start this moment. Be a non-smoker. I am so happy since I quit. I have my moments where I am angry and upset but smoking did not make those moments any easier. Now I smell better, I look better, my breath is fresher, my complexion is rosier, I can take deep breaths and I can relax all the time. I can hug my BF for hours and not have to get up to smoke. Join us. It is nicer here. Quit now while you have your mind focused on the quit. Top tip - when you go out to socialise and you feel the urge to have one puff - tell someone who you know will be your rock, ask them to help you through those crucial seconds, fetch a glass of ice cold water and sip that, walk away to the fresh air, breath deep and wait for it to pass becasue it will as soon as your attention is grabbed by something else Quit now - and you'll not be smelling like an ashtray on you big night out, and you'll be amazed how bad the smokers smell - I certainly was!! My question is this: I have done the work on the left, I have started a diary of sorts(14 pages long now), I have desire. Having said that, the material all says that if you know you have a function in the very near future that will make it hard to quit put your quit date past that. Well, on the weekend of the 9th I have smoking friends coming into town and there will be a big party with drinking and ya know, smoking. I set my date for the 11th. My problem is this, I want to quit now but I don't want to fail during that time. I am soaring on such a great dose of motivation but I don't want to set myself up. Your thoughts?

Hi, Stoppin'. I agree with Mira. Quit now while the motivation is high. You'll be through the detox stage and hell week before the 9th. When your smoking friends arrive, tell them you've quit smoking and that they are not to give you even a puff no matter how you plead, beg, or threaten. Don't nag on them over their smoking or even suggest they should quit, too. Just ask for their cooperation. Then go have a blast. Don't worry about failure. While slips are to be avoided, they aren't the end of the world or the quit. If you should slip, then just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and have at it again. Stoppin, You can also prepare for that date and quit now! Preparing for a situation and having coping mechanisms ready will enable you to be in a situation without slipping. The members can share many coping mechanisms with you :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
