    Cigarettes Not Smoked

19 years ago 0 7 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hello again: This is day 19 of not smoking for me. I keep telling myself it is worth doing this, and it will get better, and NOT ONE PUFF EVER, although sometimes it is almost all I can think about. I went on vacation last week. I went to The Grand Canyon and Sedona, Arizona, and I went on 4 hikes. I absolutely know to the bottom of my heart that had I still been smoking I would have never, ever been able to make it up Bell Rock, altitude 8,960 feet. Even though it has ONLY been 19 days, I know I would have been totally out of breath, and would not have been able to breath at all. But I did it!!! I used the patch, my friend is a non-smoker, so that did help. I still find it difficult after dinner, the after dinner smoke with a cup of tea was such a treat, and after we would go out to eat, walking out of the restaurants, where all the smokers were standing outside, was just a killer. I have to admit it did still smell so good, but I did not smoke. I did go to my doctor yesterday and ask for a prescription for Wellbutrin, because I still seem to be very weepy, and I started it today, and found myself sleeping off and on all day. I do find that when I get irritable or stressed I do want desperately to smoke, but again keep telling myself that it just won't change the situation. One evening in the hotel I unzipped my suitcase to get a sweater as the weather had turned a little chilly, and I guess I had not worn (or washed) the sweater since before I quit smoking. I put the sweater on, and within a minute I was so desperately craving a cigarette, more so than in all the 19 days. I was a minute away from going out and buying a pack, but have read all the advice on here, and just kept telling myself, just wait it out five minutes, and then just another five minutes more, drink more water, eat more lozenges, chew more gum, and finally the craving went away (and I took that sweater off too!!) I know it is not going to be easy, I just did not want to think it would be this hard, but I am determined not to give in to smoking again.
