It isn't getting any easier

Hey Chico, You've got your head on straight, you know the "excuses" to go back to smoking add up to a BIG nothing. You are missing nothing but bad things. 51 days is bangin!!!!!! Maybe it's just time for a reward and a REFRESH on reasons why you quit. For me, it was the fact that I wanted to breathe and not feel like I was 75! I felt lazy sitting around smoking when I used to be a HUGE workout queen who ate veggies and worked on ME. Then I got stupid and started to smoke because I had a boyfriend at the time that did. Keep the part of you that says "I cannot touch another cigarette as long as I live" posted where you can see it. We're all addicts like Lady said and it's a battle that is now with us every day were on earth. I am going to be a WINNER today. Just one day at a time. You had your thoughts and the nicodemon harassing you, now it's Chico's turn to tell e'm whos BOSS. Keep up your fabulous track record!!!!!!!!! I'm right there with you, Chico. I loved to smoke and I really don't believe anyone who says they didn't. If cigarettes grossed us out so bad, then quitting wouldn't be so difficult. I think we have to demonize it(the "nicodemon", for crying out loud) and/or associate it with really nasty things just to enable our minds to get around the idea of quitting something we really have enjoyed. However; One could argue that I only loved 5 or 6 of the 40 I smoked a day and therein lies the problem and the reason we have to quit. I wish I could smoke 6 a day, but I can't. I don't need a cigarette, I need 40. After 2 months, one would think I would be at peace with this quit, but I still have intense craves. It is better than in the beginning, but I'm more tired than in the beginning so the quit becomes relative. Statistically, we have a not so rosey hurdle to overcome. But people do it and I would like to be one of the folks who get a 2 year quit behind them who have a huge statistical advantage of never smoking again- almost that of a person who has never smoked. Not to mention all the health advantages. Take a deep breath, try for 6 months because that seems to be when people begin to acknowledge a real freedom from the battle. In the mean time, it really just is a day to day thing. I would like to thank all of you for your responses. They are very inspiring. I would like you all to know that I have no intentions of ever going back to smoking, I have a new life and I am enjoying it. Well my quit has lasted a whole 51 days. It seems like I just quit a week ago. To me the first 40 days were not that difficult but the last 10 have been horrible. It is like a light bulb has turned on inside of me and said hey this guy is serious about quitting. Therefore the nicodemon has poured it on. The past eleven days have been absolutely horrible. I have been fighting the excuses to go back to smoking. The excuses have been relentless. However, no one has to worry because I am not going back to smoking, but it sure has been tempting. Alot of people say is smoking is disgusting, however I am here to tell you that I sure enjoyed it. In saying that I also know that it is bad for your health and the health of others. Therefore I know that I cannot touch another cigarette as long as I live. There is no alternative. Hey Chico... I'm another one of those, I really enjoyed smoking, kind of people. I would love to be able to smoke, but we know we would lose the freedom we have faught so hard for. More junkie/addictive thinking. You recognized this time frame exactly for what it is worth when you said that it was the nicodemon thinking your are really serious so he's pouring it on. Some call it the last stand of the nicodemon. I remember it well. I believe it was somewhere around 58 days for me. Hang in there and hold on to that possitive thinking. Do NOT give in. You are almost there and you are going to love the freedom you find. You can do it. You ARE doing it. Congratulations! Chico, You're doing great and you have a great attitude! Even though things are hard, you recognize that it's the junkie talking and not the REAL you who quit smoking and is doing an awesome job! I know you'll be fine because you've got the right attitude and the determination to see this quit through the tough times! Congratulations on 51 days! Did you reward yourself for that? Crave the Quit!
