Alexa, I just had a lung x-ray in Jan and I did request it since I was quitting smoking and my Dr ordered it for me, and everything was fine. WHAT A RELIEF!!!! If you are concerned ask your Dr. SUNSHINE My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 87 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,490 Amount Saved: $304.5 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 14 Mins: 35 Seconds: 49

THERES NO NEED TO HAVE ONE UNLESS YOUR DOCTOR THINKS YOU NEED ONE. :)

Hi, Alexa. I don't really know how often one should have a chest x-ray, but I do think it's a good idea to get one from time to time. The reason is from the American Lung Association's website: "In its early stages, lung cancer usually does not cause symptoms. When symptoms occur, the cancer is often advanced." Lung cancer is a silent killer since by the time you find out you have it, it's often too late. Early detection is the key here. Your doctor will be able to tell you more. I think anyone who has smoked should get one just for a baseline. I recently had one. There's a spot in the uppler lobe of the right lung that the doc says is probably scar tissue. That's also where I had a constant rattle/gurgle when I smoked. I plan on getting another in about a year just to see if there's any change. Alexa, This is a question that you should be asking your doctor. The Stop Smoking Center is not able to give out medical advice that pertains to diagnostic tests. However, we can congratulate you on being 25 days smoke-free :) Are you coping well? Any withdrawals or cravings that are hard to cope with? Melanie ____________________________ The SSC Support Team
