Hi, Tom. Congratulations on your quit and welcome to the SSC. You've learned that stuff happens whether we smoke or not, and that smoking doesn't make problems go away. OK, some may say it would make craves go away, but that's not true. All it would do is postpone and extend them. It's life's job to throw everything it can at us while we are breaking this addiction. It's the addiction's job to do everything it can to convince us that smoking will make it easier to deal with life. It's our job to hold to the truth amidst all the lies in our heads, to refuse to give in to addiction's lure, and to learn to deal with life's challenges without the crutch of smoking. It isn't easy, Tom, but it can be done. There are many here who are in various stages of doing it, they are the proof. Grab some who quit around the same time for encouragement and support, and look to those ahead for the path. There is truly strenght in numbers. Hi Tom, Welcome to the SSC. Have you had a chance to work the program here? It's very interesting how much you learn alot about yourself and your addiction. This site will be one of your most valuable tools...make it part of your daily routine to log on. You can do this! Don't allow it to be stronger than you are :) Congrats on a very wise decision! Tom I'm a 50 year old female and have more or less smoked since I was 15 years old. It's been very helpful to me to read your post and everyone elses here because I had a slip last night also. Thanks everyone for the support because I need it right now. I don't want to go on sliping and sliding like this. Tom, lets stay in touch, let me know how your doing. Hi Tom, I'm 56 and you can see by my stats I quit 14 months ago. When I quit I also started a walking program -- just 15 or 20 minutes a day to start off. I was able to get my blood pressure and cholesterol back to normal levels, just from quitting smoking and walking. Good luck to you!
