Is it better to cut a 21mg in half to use 10 1/2mg or is it better to use a whole 7mg patch because even though it is less then 10 1/2mg it may control the cravings better because it is not cut and therefore delivering the whole 7mg. I have read that if you cut them you don't really know how much you are really getting. Has anyone found this to be true? I have been on the 14mg for 6 weeks so it is time to step down. I thought I would do the 10 1/2mg for a week and then go to the 7's but I am having a really hard time on the 10 1/2mg. Am I going to feel this way just because I am stepping down? Thanks for the info. Iwin, Do NOT cut the patches in half. You are right that you don't know how much nicotine you are getting because the nicotine can escape when you cut the patch and you are basically making them ineffective. I say use the 7. You WILL most likely experience slight cravings when you step down because you are lowering the amount of nicotine in your body, but that should pass. Please follow the directions and do NOT cut the patches. That's my suggestion. Crave the Quit! Iwin, We would suggest not to cut the patch. If you cut the patch the nicotine will evaporate as it will no longer be in a sealed environment. Also check with your pharmacist regarding dosages and the program. Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
