Do NOT cut the patches in half. You are right that you don't know how much nicotine you are getting because the nicotine can escape when you cut the patch and you are basically making them ineffective. I say use the 7. You WILL most likely experience slight cravings when you step down because you are lowering the amount of nicotine in your body, but that should pass. Please follow the directions and do NOT cut the patches. That's my suggestion.
