Hi Everyone, I recently read this in my local paper, and though it isn't a study relating to smoking, it did make me wonder if there is a link with our quitting and weight gain. You be the judge.
Scientists in the U.S. and Britain have been studying the bodies' metabolism in sleep deprived subjects. It seems that the less sleep you get the more your bodies metabolism is unable to regulate your hunger and the hormones that cause it. The participants in the study had their levels of leptin ( a hormone produced by fat cells that tells your brain to stop eating), rise significantly higher than normal. The scientists conclude that "The people who slept less ended up being heavier". It goes on to say "Every chunk of lost sleep, drives up the urge to binge"
This article made me go uhmmm. I wonder if this may be adding to the weight gains for some of us quitters.( besides the obvious,
eating everything in sight) lol. I have seen several people post how their sleep has been quite affected by their quit.
What do you think? redrosie

Red, you're right on. Lack of sleep exacerbates & sometimes even causes so many kinks in the ol' system it's amazing we're walking around at all! But if we're having trouble sleeping because we've recently quit smoking, and we're having trouble fighting off the cravings because we're exhausted from lack of sleep, what the heck is a guy or gal supposed to do?
Cold Turkeys have nightmares about stuffing and gravy!
