Hi My name is Fran, I gave up smoking for lent in hopes to save my life and not leave my daughter behind. My mom died when she was 56 years old from smoking and I am only 12 years away from her age which means I would leave my daughter before she has time to start a family or even get married. She would only be around 24 or 25 years old. But I am having a very hard time quitting. My urges are pretty major. When they come like that I just want to cave in to them and hope I am one of the lucky ones that will live and not be affected but I know I cant take that chance. I just dont know if these desire stays so hard if I will be able to continue to fight it. I wish everyone luck and I hope I can be a quitter too. Hi Fran!!! You are on the right track. I am 5l smoked 35 years and always told myself I could not do this. I surprised myself, I CAN do this. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I also prepared myself. I have been talking myself into this for a year. Grabbing all the info I could to help me. I sew and for the first l0 days, someone saw to it I had lots to do. HAd all kinds of altering to do for others. I even sewed a quilt top I have wanted to do for several months. I was a totally committed smoker, feeling I loved to smoke and would never be able to quit. Most the time, I don't miss it. Hang in there, it does get better and you will feel better. This site has been very helpful for me, just reading it every morning while I get through that first craving of the day. YOU CAN DO IT!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 493 Amount Saved: $44 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 22 Mins: 3 Seconds: 10

Morninggolory 1st and foremost sorry about you Mother. Unfortunately, too many lives are taken because of cigarettes. You can do this. You can beat this addiction. We are all here for you and in the scc those aren't hollow words. They and I are all here for you and will be throughout this journey. You can beat this demon right alongside of the rest of us. You have taken the most important step by deciding to quit. Now you just have to hold on for an incredible ride. It will get hard. It will seem impossible but IT ISN'T and we will all be here every step of the way. Reading other successfull quitters posts will help you get through this as well as posting yourself for advice, to rant, to cry, to laugh, etc. whatever you feel the need to post and get off your chest! 4 Days are incredible alot of folks can't do it for one. Just take it day by day. It will get easier!! Hello Fran, you should be really proud of yourself, to get through the first 3 days is a great achievement as they are by far the worst. There are many challenging days ahead but if you focus on the positives then you can get through this. Just remember that the only 'positive' in giving in is that you temporarilly get rid of the craving, but there are loads of positives in not giving in i.e. smelling good, mouth feeling fresh, not coughing or wheezing, you can breath more easilly ...... the list goes on. All you have to do is ignore the cravings, take a deep breath, drink water, go for a walk - anything, these feelings are only temporary so it's not like you have to put up with them forever but you will reap the rewards for ever. Hi Fran, you are going through Hell week as I heard others call it. I lived it and I'd have to say I agree and never want to do that again. It does get easier as time goes on, but for now you will go through a rough time. If quitting was easy we wouldn't be here. Make water your new best friend, and excercise. They say this works and I have to tell you it does. It will really help, and post and read, and post and read. Many are here to help and have such great words of wisdom to see you through each step of the way. Hi Fran, Welcome. Do you really, truly want to quit? Does your desire to quit outweigh your desire to smoke? ( wise Ladys' words). This is where your mindset needs to be for success. I see you are on day 3, that's great. Are you using an NRT or are you cold turkey? You need to have a plan in place for when you have bad cravings. I found in my first 2 weeks I kept very busy. I cleaned and painted everything in sight. Speaking of sight, this site has been a real lifesaver for me. Use the tools Fran and don't be afraid to post with ant questions or concerns. There are alot of friendly quitters here. Fran...you are a quitter like Rusty said. As long as you don't light that next cigarette, you've got it made. I know that sounds silly but that is what I told myself early in my quit. I have made it XXX hours(days), there is no way I'm gonna give that up and start all over again. It doesn't seem like it right now but it really does get better. Unfortunately, what you are going through now is all part of the process. I will tell you that the freedom you will eventually feel is worth every second of misery you are experiencing now. Remember that every day is one day closer to never feeling this way again. Congratulations on your quit. You are doing an awesome job!
