not a good day

I'm very embarrased to say that i had a cigarette this morning. This was my first attempt at trying to quit and i only made it 3 days. I think I'm going to set a date and quit on that date. I'm shooting for May 31st. I'm going to cut down for a couple of weeks and then try again. Sorry to dissapoint you guys. Ryan

Morning RKM, Today is a new day - if you didn't manage to quit yesterday, why not start now. As Oink says (above), delaying will only make life more difficult All the best! RKM - You got hit - now get right back in the batters box! The advice you got above is sage - you have been through the bad stuff, don't let the three days go - get right back in there and fight for the time you have under your belt. It's crummy and it's super hard, but SO worth it. You'll be glad later if you stay with this quit. CobenFan

Ryan - You are either Quit or you're a amoker. It's a choice and it's hell quitting (and again, it's a choice). What are you waiting for? Today is better than any other day to Quit. And this time, what about making it a focused and determined Quit rather than an 'attempt' - just a thought. Don't give in so easilly, even if you have caved in 1 cig in 3 days is far better than 60 or whatever you would have got through. Get back on the wagon as soon as you can, the longer you leave it the harder it will be. 3days to 1 cig= start again today. It sounds to me like your giving yourself a reason to smoke for the next couple of weeks. Believe me you HAVE made it through the worst. Don't beat yourself up RKM.. Nor give yourself permission to smoke. Cutting down for a couple of weeks is not going to make quitting any easier. The truth is quitting is hard and it sucks. The only way to get through it is one day at a time. You have to keep going. Junkie thinking seems to have gotten the best of you. That is ok. It's gotten the best of all of us on numerous occassions. The important thing here is that you don't give up and you don't let the junkie within take over. You can break free of this addiction and the rewards of doing so are endless. Smoking will kill you. Don't kid yourself. You are not above the rest. Drown those cigarettes and get back on your quit right now. There is no time like the present. What if that next cigarette you smoke is the one that will kill you? Something to think about. Ryan, it sounds like you've had more than one cig. It sounds like you've decided to relapse for 2 1/2 weeks. Why wait that long? What's so special about May 31 that you're willing to risk lung cancer and COPD waiting until it arrives? Volumnes of advice above me here. General George C. Patton once wrote, concerning a day to start a major offense -
"Anytime is a good time to start a fight. However, today is a GREAT time!"
RKM, We are always here for support and not to judge. Why not get right back in there and not sacrifice 3 days? Prepare yourself for those craves and be ready in every situation. We are ready when you are :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
