Thanks for the post, my personal favorite was # 7....thankfully all of the smokers I know are very supportive of my quit but jeez, I can't even imagine the looks on their faces if I did that (hee hee) It's so funny but now I almost want one of them to try and offer one just so I can take it then step on it. Thanks again! and congratulations on your 6 months - that's awesome My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 401 Amount Saved: $91 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 23 Mins: 48 Seconds: 4

Wonderful post. I especially liked the part of stepping on someones cig if they try and tempt you. Thing here is that as expensive as they've become, someone might knock your lights out, lol. But you're right. They'll never do it again. Keep the quit. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 93 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,732 Amount Saved: $651 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 16 Mins: 34 Seconds: 12

As I reach my 6 month mark, i just wanted to share some of the things that i learned that may help some of you that are just starting out. Although i havent been active in the forums, i read nearly everything when i first started out, "leeching" from everyone elses experiences. Thanks to everyone! 1. I abused the NRTs. (ie put a patch on in the morning and a new one at night) The only way for me was cold turkey. 2. Get excited about your quit. Get your friends and family on board. 3. Take up exercise. (this is the most important to me) Together with quitting you are setting yourself up for success, and you will be much more motivated. If you are not active, exercise can feel like a chore. i promise you that if you keep it up you will begin to look forward to it. I like the saying, "progress not perfection". 4. You can never have just one. EVER. As soon as you get this into your head it will get a lot easier. I have read on here "a puff away from a pack a day" and it is absolutely true. i now know that i cannot ever have another cigarette for the rest of my life, and i am ok with it. 5. No matter what the situation, smoking a cigarette will not make it better. 6. One of the hardest times initially for me was when i went out drinking. I told my buddies that no matter what I said to not let me have a cigarette, that they could punch me if I tried. It worked. 7. If youre around smokers who hear about your quit and immediately offer you a smoke, accept it and promptly step on it. (it feels really good) they wont offer you any more. 8. I used to give myself a little reward each nite by making a mark on the calendar for not smoking that day before i went to bed. I would anticipate making the mark, and I was proud of my collection of smoke free days. 9. I used to wear an orange rubber bracelet from the american cancer society that said livefree, smokefree. It was very instrumental to my success. (i know that it is a fad, but it helped) It kept me focused. 10. Nicotine is a drug, and we are all addicts. (if you are reading this) Have self control over it, or it will control you. 11. Cravings suck, but they do go away. You are not going to die if you don't have a cigarette. Sometimes i will get the notion for a cig, and
