rswfire, There's a book that many have mentioned here and they say it's helped them quite a bit. I think it's called The Easy Way to Quit Smoking by Alan Carr (someone else correct me if I'm mistaken). Perhaps it's just what you need to get your mind in gear :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 366 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,330 Amount Saved: $1306.62 Life Gained: Days: 38 Hrs: 19 Mins: 25 Seconds: 29

Hi rswfire, I think it's great that you're contemplating the changes that you KNOW need to happen...sooner...or later. However, we both know that sooner is the wisest decision. :) So, let's just lay the cars on the table. When you stop smoking you'll be uncomfortable...not just with withdrawals but also in some emotional ways. We've used smoking for a crutch way too long. You know that the actual physical withdrawals are the quickest to fade. It's the mental aspect we deal with much longer. So ask yourself, is this insurmountable? No. Will it kill me? No. Do I really have what it takes? Yes....everyone does and just look at how many are doing it. Do I still want to smoke? Yes. Is now the right time? It never is to an addict. Do I fear failure? BINGO! We've all felt it, rsw. Keep in mind that the emotion you speak of may not come again with your next quit...and if it does...we'll be here to help you work through. So you got uncomfortable at 15 days... is that normal? You bet it is but you keep hanging on and it passes and life is better than before. We can't make you want to quit. You'll know when the time is right. I just want you to know that you CAN do it...honestly you can. Don't stop reading and participating here. Then, when the time is right, dive in. I had to do it without much thought...it worked for me. We'll be here when you're ready :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 366 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,328 Amount Saved: $1306.62 Life Gained: Days: 38 Hrs: 19 Mins: 14 Seconds: 3

hi rsw! it's great to see you again! I'm glad you haven't given up quitting. When I hit that freedom point, it scared me too. I spent the day awed by the fact that I did it, it was real, I was never going to smoke again. Up to that point I don't think I really believed it. I got through it by bringing my focus back down to one day at a time. Forever was too long, I wasn't ready to think of life without cigs. Good luck to you rsw! You deserve the freedom! I can't help but think that what you were feeling was something other than 'freedom'???? Otherwise why did you smoke. I think your addiction is working hard at giving you crazy excuses to keep smoking. There isn't any way to answer your question and therefor your addiction is safe. You will continue to smoke....saying you don't want to fail in quitting. There is a freedom that comes from quitting, but it sure isn't scarey.....it's something you want to hang on to for dear life....."literally" Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1491 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 59,657 Amount Saved: $8200.5 Life Gained: Days: 194 Hrs: 12 Mins: 51 Seconds: 10
