Hi Phillip - Sorry about coming in late, just found this post. Sooooooooo - what's really exciting about this is you get to bring the New You to those times (like this) when smoking was the only option you knew. We didn't think about it, the cigarette was just always there, hanging around to celebrate with us, mourn with us, get angry when we got angry, it was just always there...mirroring us and giving us a 'place' to go, right? How exciting to find new ways, new coping mechanisms and ultimately watch yourself cope with life - good times and bad, and the most exciting times like today for you (!) in such healthy ways. And isn't it grand to go through an experience like yours today, not lose that great excitement and look back and say, wow, I did all that w/out smoking?' :) Blessings! Phillip - Sorry I missed this yesterday! I hope all went well and you kept so busy that you got tons of stuff done. It will be exciting to go into a new space - one where there are no memories of smoking - one that is clean and fresh and just waiting for you! Get those CAD drawings going! My husband bought that program for his shop (very expensive) and no one ever learned how to use it :( Maybe you ought to take a trip down to St Simons Island and teach us how!! I'll let you ride my Vespa (now that's a bribe if I ever heard one) Take Care Island Girl My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 94 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 945 Amount Saved: $188 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 0 Mins: 35 Seconds: 45

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

So here I am I am very excited, I am about to put an offer in to lease new office space. I Have to wait a bit for the document to be emailed to lawyer and landlord rep. Thing is I am excited and I am on the edge of my chair, I like this new place and I want it. My mind keeps going to just calm down, how have I done this chill out in the past - I have smoked, not a little in this situation I know that I smoked a lot. Whenever I had to wait for anything I puffed away like a little chimney. Well I can't do that now and I am searching for things to do while I wait. My mind keeps going to smoking and I simply just left everything and came here to post and wait and see what comes back. I don't think I will smoke I will wait here and I am having a difficult time just focusing my mind of what I need to do and planning things out. Sometimes when I look at what this impatient, or excited person is doing I am sad, these things seem so basic and the smoking was such a coping mechanism and I feel lost not knowing what to do. Then I say, "fer cryin out loud you are a 50 year old man get it together". The harshness of that does not help me. I know I need to chill out, take some breaths, fix myself a cup of tea and simply find a new way to calm myself down. I'll go do that and I will keep you posted. No Smoking.... Not One Puff Ever!!!!!!!! Thanks for being there. So I waited around and then got busy. Funny the getting busy thing has been a bad thing, in relationship, at work always thought this is just too much and you are not real you are busy. Blag blag blag and what worked right now was to go out and do a bunch of stuff that I have to do at some point in time. So not just hang around waiting but to get busy, get stuff done and besides I can get all the cad drawings done so as soon as I know on Monday I can do the furniture and get moving. No time like the present. Now sit ups thats kinda mean for a flabby forty something closer to fifty. And hey it could work in a pinch give me somethin to think about as I clutch my gut trying to stand up straight after doing like maybe two LMAORAOTFLMASMandSM! Getting busy worked for now. Thanks for being there and reading!!!!! and Responding!!!!! ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 97 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,953 Amount Saved: $727.5 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 21 Mins: 53 Seconds: 18

Smoking would not make you calm it will make you anxious, nervous, stinky, sick just think of how nasty it would taste after all this time. Hang there do anything but don't smoke! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/31/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 359 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,192 Amount Saved: $1615.5 Life Gained: Days: 36 Hrs: 23 Mins: 40 Seconds: 53

Phillip, you are a hoot! :) I totally identify with the "clutch my gut trying to stand up straight after doing like maybe two" part. Stay as busy as you can. Remember, everytime you get through an event that you used to smoke in, you weaken the association between smoking and the event. Eventually, that link will be completely broken. When you figure out what works...please don't forget to come back and tell us. I react the same way in those situations, and I'll cheat off your paper if you figure it out....
