Hi redrosie! Sometimes i have really good days and then i'll have some bad days too. Just keep telling yourself that your going to stay strong no matter what. You are the one that will give yourself permission to have a cig, never allow it no matter what the situation is. This sounds crazy but sometimes i hear that little voice, i guess it's my sub-concious saying c'mon just one! I really have to say to myself NO you will NEVER smoke again and thats it!! I really do think this battle is largely mental. Hang in there and stay on this site. You can do this!!!

I'm so glad I came here tonight. I feel the same way Redrosie was describing. This last week has been worse then the 1st week was. I expected Hell week to be the worse, but I honestly am feeling worse this week......UGH! I want a cig so dam bad that I have been "reasoning" with myself for 2 hours.......like."Awww, do I really want to quit like this" Or....."I don't want to feel this unhappy for the rest of my life" Today has been just horrible for me!!! So when people said that their 2nd week was worse also, it made me feel yet another glimmer of hope for myself! If I can just get through tonight...tomorrow will be better! (won't it????) I just feel soooo b---chy!!! Maybe go get the patch? I have been cold-turkey up to this point. Let me see now.....the patch, my marriage...the patch, my marriage. Hmmmmm

Redrosie, hang in there. It's a mental game now. Really focus on yourself and constantly remind yourself why you quit. Covnince yourself that you are a non-smoker. Instead of thinking about the times when you used to smoke, think about all the extra time and money you have now as a non-smoker. Figure out what to do with that extra time and money!
You can do it...fight through the crave and kick some ash!

I find that my cravings are getting much harder to ignore. It seems that my first week was heck week and this week is hell week. Is this normal? Also I always thought that if I could quit for this long that I would be estatic, and I was at first. Now, I find that I am a little sad and depressed. Am I maybe mourning the loss of my deadly " friend"? Any advice, I could use it. [color=Red]redrosie[/color]

totally normal result in my experience. Somewhere around 3-4 full weeks quit and your brain will start to normalize again. That's how it's gone for me in the past. It's natural to feel some depression and strong craves for quite a while after quitting but they should grow weaker and further apart in time.

I posted in here once that I truly felt as if I had lost my best friend. I was grieving and couldn't undertand why. What you are going through is so normal, so take comfort in that. I promise you it will get better than it is right now. Many have gone before you and made it and so will you. Keep the Quit

I too had it worse the second week than I did the first. I think that's because the first week, I was pumped that I'd quit smoking and had that excitement to carry me through the craves. Then, by the second week, a little of the excitement is gone and the craves set in. Newbkr is right about the chemicals in your brain... what we are missing is dopamine, and so a lack of dopamine causes depression. Read Shevie's "Rewards, Nicotine and the Brain" if you want to find out more about that. How to get over this feeling is to reward yourself. You can stimulate the dopamine receptors if you reward yourself well and frequently. It doesn't have to be anything big, but it has to be something that you really like and see as a reward. Congratulations on 12 days!

i found the second week much worse too. It does get much better. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who has a worse week, the second week.
