Ah Joe! You've got me going! The delights of M.A.S.H.
"I'm a life long Anglophile. England is still the only place I know where any young man can grow up to be the Queen." Hawkeye
But it got me wondering................was she called Hotlips cos she smoked? There are certain things in life that we cannot change.......one of them is the effect that smoking has on our bodies. We are fighting a war, a war against addiction, drug abuse and a multi-billion dollar/pound scandal.
"Look, all I know is what they taught me at command school. There are certain rules about a war and rule number one is young men die. And rule number two is doctors can't change rule number one." Henry Blake
That quote does not require much changing around to fit our circumstances...... "There are certain rules about smoking and rule number one is that young men and women who smoke will die prematurely. And rule number two is that doctors can't change rule number one." Mad Englishman There are many lists of reasons not to smoke on the site........but is not extra life the biggest? A final quote from Hawkeye, Trapper, Hotlips, Henry, BJ and many others................
"We all know it's brutal up there at the front, especially those of us at the rear" Frank Burns
So don't commit suicide my friends. Brent, M*A*S*H* ... one of my very favorite movies and the TV show wasn't bad either! I don't know if many recall that the song, "Suicide is Painless", from the movie, the theme played on the TV show, has lyrics. The irony of it is that suicide is NOT painless. Smoking is suicide.. usually very slow suicide. At the beginning it is painless as most new smokers don't suffer at all... and most do not for many, many years. Ah, but it is then that the devil calls his hand and the poor smoker, now feeling trapped and helpless by his addiction, falls prey to illness. So much for the painless part. "Suicide is painless, it brings on many changes, and I can take or leave it if I choose" We, as quitters, have made the choice to stop the suicide. It's all a matter of choice.
