This is common. I posted the first week of my quit about how much I was coughing. I think it was about 3 weeks before the coughing really settled down. Keep the quit. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day

Hookie, Read this about the brown crud (Shevie, when you said brown crud, it reminded me of this thread). This is completely normal. Crave the Quit! Hookie, That's actually very common. I don't remember exactly why... it has something to do with your cilia or something. Anyway, it will end soon, most likely. Congratulations on 12 days! Hi, hookie. Congratulations on 12 days quit and welcome to the SSC. Coughing is normal. Your body's beginning to recover from the damage smoking inflicted and cleaning out the accumulated gunk is part of it. Do not be surprised if really yucky dark brown, black, or grey crud starts coming up. That's all the tar and crap that's been deposited over the years. On the other hand, if it's a dry, non-productive cough you may want to see your doctor. Many people come down with colds, etc. after they quit that they wouldn't have caught when they smoked (it's a temporary thing).
