    Cigarettes Not Smoked

18 years ago 0 4 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I just wanted to post a note to help anyone who feels frustrated by trying to quit smoking. I have been on this site for a couple years on and off, quit about 3 times, and gone from thinking I did something, to realizing I was still a slave to those stupid cigs. Never did I go more than one month though. I smoked my last cig on sept 22, 2005. I don't know what the hell was special about that day. I just quit. No more patches, no more stress, no more letting people down. After 15+ years and all the dramatic quits, I finally walked away. I didn't think about it working, I didn't tell anyone....I didn't care anymore. I had failed too many times, I was tired of lying to myself. It has been 4 months. I have not had one cig, nor one puff. It was hell the first week and heck the next, but I don't have to tell you that. You know. It really got easier, and I never EVER thought I would EVER say this, but I rarely think about cigs anymore. I know what you're thinking ("This guy doesn't know how much I crave them" I will never be able to stop thinking about them"), yeah, I thought that way too when I would see people say that. It's true though. So how do I know I will never smoke again? When I DID think about cigs, I thought about the last time I quit for ONE month. When I started back, those first few cigs hurt to smoke...I mean they physically hurt my chest. I forced them in. I thought it would feel good in my mund, but it wasn't good at all, until I had gotten through half a pack. When I remembered this, I knew it would hurt again. After a few minutes, the thought would vanish (I never believed it when I heard that one either...yes it's true too). Folks, you may not be a success your first try, or your second....but keep with it. It is worth it, and it will happen. I may be fatter now (I can fix that next), but I cannot begin to describe how free I am. I am free, free, free....It makes me cry because I am so happy. You know you want to feel this way...so stay with it. I will never ever smoke again, and finally I can say this without a shred of doubt in my mind. Jason

Jason: I also quit many many times and you are right.....you keep doing it until you get it right!!!!! There are no words to describe the feeling of knowing you will never smoke again. From time to time, cigs may enter your mind (they still do for me sometimes) but its just a flicker of thought and it goes away very quickly by just reminding myself that I don't and won't smoke.... I had rather be a non smoker with an occasional desire for a cig than a smoker with a consistant desire to quit!!!! Stay Strong Jason.....It just keeps getting better and better..... Hi Jason! What a wonderful post. Congratulations on your 4 months and also for your great positive attitude. "I am free, free, free....It makes me cry because I am so happy. You know you want to feel this way...so stay with it." Makes it all worth it, doesn't it? Not cravin', never cavin'.
