Sensitive to the smell......

19 years ago 0 18 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I have visions of your super-detective nose turning every which way seaching for the culprit!! Good for you! In the state of Australia that i live smoking is banned in all resturants, pubs and nightclubs and now there is a push to ban smoking in cars when children are passengers! You're right, you don't fully comprehend how totally powerful the smell is until you don't smoke. Smiles Cass

Yes, indeed. I'm becoming that guy... I can't stand the smell on my co workers. I don't like to shake hands with a smoker because I can smell the residue on my hand then. When I go out, I have to immediately put the clothing I wore in the laundry upon returning home because they stink. And like you, yesterday, I was behind a car where someone was smoking and I could smell it with my windows up. I have to remind myself though - I was all of these people for many years. Sad as that may be, it is a reminder as to my resolve to remain smoke free because I never want to be back there. keep on keepin on - fish My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 132 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,985 Amount Saved: $660 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 4 Mins: 20 Seconds: 4

Today, I was in my car stopped at a light. I had all the windows up and the vent on. I smelled cigarettes. It made me sick. I looked right, I looked left. Nothing. I looked ahead. Nothing. I thought to myself, "I never smoked in this car, did it creep in from the smoking room off the garage?" Then I looked in the rearview and there she was, smoking away with her window down. This time last year, I never would have noticed. Anyone else getting hypersensitive to the smell of cigarettes? :) This is so exciting!!!!!!! I actually spent the drive home trying to think of a way to get our state public smoking ban extended to city streets and private automobiles! It's a shame we can't carry firehoses around with us for these specific instances. Talk about making a statement! :eg: Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 344 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,898 Amount Saved: $1307.2 Life Gained: Days: 64 Hrs: 7 Mins: 11 Seconds: 37

Place large signs everywhere that state: "If we see smoke we will assume you are on fire and take the appropriate action." Seriously though - I think smokers have rights. To try and ban smoking in a private automobile smacks of "big brother" to me. We as ex smokers need to own our quits. We will be tempted at times by situations but that's our problem. In the case you mentioned, I believe she had every right to smoke in her car. The fact that you smelled it is your problem. Now if this was in a restaurant or enclosed space, I'd have a whole different opinion on the matter. I now avoid any establishment with a smoking area. A public restaurant with a smoking area is like a public pool with a peeing area. You just can't avoid it getting everywhere. I too am hypersensitive to the smell now. I can pick it up from a mile away. My problem. Kitty, Congrats on 228 days! Your sense of smell is definitely heightened :) Your sinuses are clear and you will notice it more. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
