What has worked in the past is face to face therapy both with a counselor and a psychiatrist and prescription medication. The "C" part of CBT helps me to become more aware of my thoughts in a more objective way.

no need to be sorry i just wanted to make sure thats all. I will write it all to ya in the near future if i get time between work and other things its hard sometimes. I have clinical depression and this website is a great website but its more for people who just got diagnosed or may think they have a mental illness.Thank you so much for listening to my story and again when i get time i will send you more. Oh sorry about that, I must have read that wrong. I would be happy to read your story here if you were to post it. If that is something that you think would be helpful then I encourage you to do it. I am sure other members would find it helpful reading your experiences. You might want to write in notepad first and then paste the text here. That way you don't have to worry about getting timed out if you are taking a long time writing your story.

Welcome to the group! I am sorry to read a bit about your struggle with depression and anxiety.  Death of a sibling and work stress would be incredibly hard for anyone to deal with. I am glad you are turning to CBT for relief. How has CBT helped you in the past? Other then CBT what worked for you before?

Hi, this is my third time going through CBT. Yep, third. I have experienced depression for as long as I can remember right back to 6-7 years old. I accept that depression/anxiety is part of my life and will always be. The most recent trigger for a downward spiral is a combination of the death of a sibling and extreme daily pressure at work. My sibling went to sleep and didn't wake up, no cause of death was determined and now my last thought before going to sleep each night is "what if I don't wake up?" So I can relate to the thoughts of death. The work pressure is from something most people shrug off and I really envy people who don't spend a lot of time in their heads thinking. Life must be easier for those people. I wasn't quite at the zombie stage of depression this time when I went to my doctor and admitted I couldn't function anymore on any sort of level and I'm thankful to have access to therapy through benefits at work and thankful for a strong union agreement that has allowed me the time off work until my brain stops screaming in rage.

yes since i been diagnosed 10 years ago with medication and psychiatrist its unreal what a turn around my life is, my puzzle was finally completed. But now for the last couple of years I havent had a regular visit with my doctor, so she dropped me and now i must get a referral to see another psychiatrist and have to tell my story again. I got hold of this site through my employer, while I try to find another doctor. But what i want to tell you is how i got here and where i came from. Take care

I didnt come to St.Johns for school, I came cause i had hit rock bottom abd thats when i decided to help. The scholl was elementary and then high school of course. I could go on telling you the whole story but we dont have enough time on here to do so neither enough words to type, but I would really tell you the whole story if i had the chance. I have been on meds now for going on 11 years so I have some experience to add too. Take care and when its good for you i would love for you to hear my story, and have a great day

Thank you for sharing a bit about what you have been going through. It sounds like you have had a lot of challenges to overcome. I think it is great that you are looking for resources to help yourself; that takes a lot of initiative! I also think it's great that despite your challenges you are striving to better yourself. This will be a huge asset to you. Have you seen any improvements since going away to school? If so, what do you think contributed to this?

You are not alone and you can certainly get better. The fear of dying or a loved on dying is quite common. I think everyone at one point or another has worried about this. Did these fears/thoughts arise after you had the baby or has this been an ongoing issue? Are you currently getting treatment for postpartum? If so, is it helping?

Christine, my depression doesnt involve death like you say is always on your mind, but, I have similiar thoughts about the same thing and I am very scared of dying and that I often think about a disease thats going to kill me too.I try to not to think that way but its very hard. I know i might not have answered your question or concerns, but i hope you know that I am with you and that your not alone. Take care and god bless.

Hello, my name is Brandon and 10 years ago i was diagnosed with Clinical Depression and ADHD. Around the age of 11, i felt different when pertaining to my emotions. I would be ecstatic and out of nowhere, i would be sad. They thought i had bi-polar disorder with the drastic contrast in my emotions. Growing up was very difficult in every avenue except sports, it was my haven where i excelled at a lot of sports I took part in. My schooling was a fight everyday, in which i would clean out , my locker a couple times a week only to return after my frustration receeded. My Dad would say i was lazy because he knew i was very intelligent, and my mother would call me stupid, and I myself figured i was crazy so i excepted it these were the three words i heard most of my life, so I accepted as my personality because my friends didnt act the way i acted in that their emotions didnt have drastic intervals. Finally in the year of 2004 i hit rock bottom and a little prior to that year, I stood on the edge of suicide many times contemplating taking my life but fortunately i didnt, and in june of that year i left my tiny community in Newfoundland and Labrador, and entered a program for mental health in St. Johns.After being diagnosed with clinical depression, little while later I was diagnosed with ADHD. So lately this past couple of months I have been feeling not 100% and I through my company checking this site out to try to find other resouces as well.
