Good News! I accepted his last few invites. I did in fact tell him about my Mood Disorder and he wasn't put off by it. He DID ask some questions, but it seems he already knows a great deal about Mood Disorders and Mental Health through his work in social work, Sigh. A partial relief anyway. The good news is that we have hit it off. My last week has gone a lot more smoothly. I still have bouts of anxiety but the depression has been manageable. Definitely lots to write about in my journal and Daily Activity Logs

Hi Teleea,

First of all, try not to avoid him anymore. Avoidance is a common reflex when we feel depressed or anxious but it only reinforces the depression and anxiety. It also sounds like this new relationship has a lot of promise - be sure to give it the fair chance it deserves - the fair chance you deserve!

Talk to him about your mental health whenever you feel ready. If you are not ready now that is ok. You have nothing to be ashamed of and I have a hunch you will be surprised by how understanding some people can be. Encourage him to ask questions and talk about his thoughts openly. If he is not informed about the mental health issues you are experiencing he might need a bit of education on the topic. If he is informed and a caring person then you have nothing to worry about.

Let us know how it goes. We are here to support you no matter what happens.

I have met a very nice man and we have had several coffee dates. It has been very uplifting to get out and spend time with someone. For a change I feel like I am leaving my Depression at home. It is evident that we both are interested in one another. My problem is that I am unsure of when to disclose my mental health and this is when my anxiety creeps in. I find the thought of being rejected yet again depressing and I have turned down the last two times he has asked to get together. Anyone have thoughts on this. I just hate this hiding at home and ruminating over this.
