Withdrawing Seroquel - Another important milestone

Hi Ashley,

First of all I think it is really difficult to find the right time for stepping off medication since it helps a lot with the symptons, but if I waited for the perfect time probably I would be forever on medication.

But I found 2 important factors which helped me made this decision: 1. the mood tracker tool which I use frequently tell me that I am stable with some ups and downs but in general terms without significant depression feelings 2. the quality of my sleep has been satisfatory even after starting weaning off medication.

Congratulations eleveno! Parabens!

For the other members out there who might be thinking about stepping off medication, how did you know you were ready to wean off?

I have been on Seroquel XR 200 mg for about 3 years to help primarly with sleep alongside with antidepressants for depression. Last year I tried to quit meds practically cold turkey with a disastrous result. I ended without proper sleep for months and finally a full rebound of the depression.

This year I wanted to make it different and I asked for the help of my family physician. I have a wonderful pdoc but regarding meds withdrawing they do not agree. Anyway, and with the help of the family physician, I first quit antidepressants after about a 2 months discontinuation period. It was not easy but with the help of CBT and yoga things were more manageable.

Now I am battling with Seroquel discontinuation which is not easy but I am taking things really slowly and I am already making some progresses. I was on Seroquel 150 mg for 1 month, then on 100 mg for 1,5 month, and yesterday I reduced again for 50 mg. I plan to be on 50 mg for 1-2 months and then stop the medication. Let’s see how it goes but it was really an important milestone for me, I am really happy for that.
