looking to talk to long term sufferers

Hi Casey Thank you for your post, in response to mine. As I do not wish to 'threadjack' as they call it, I will just quickly let you know that for the sake of the children, they are going into temporary care sometime today. I am just not in a position mentally to give them what they need, and this is a decision that I have certainly not made lightly and have anguished about for sometime. Maybe now I can put my efforts into getting well........

Dear LilahRose, If you have not already done so, please consider consulting with your health care provider regarding these concerns. Help is available, you do not have to go through these feelings alone. Take care and keep us posted, Casey ____________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

Hi kpisamom, It is great to hear that you are doing so well with this medication and have found a helpful book. In addition to these, please take the time to check out our free online program if you have not already done so. The core of The Depression Center is our Depression Program which is an interactive, 16-session cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)course. When using cognitive behavioral therapy, each person has unique goals in their treatment. Whatever your motivation, cognitive behavioral therapy is a very effective treatment for depression. I think that I first began to suffer from Depression the day that I found my 2 month old Son dead of SIDS when I was 16 years old. I am 43yrs old now, and have only had a couple of years where I was free from the curse of this illness. I also have found that Medication isn't particularly helpful, although the Venlafaxine that I am on at present does seem to help a little. From my perspective, it seems that I have never had the time or right opportunity to deal with my Depression. I had another child at 18, got married at 27, and then had four more children. My husband physically, mentally, and emotionally abused me, and his final blow to me was when he left me for a younger woman. That happened a couple of weeks before Christmas (2006), and since then I have had to cope with the kids alone, for he has virtually abandoned them and moved to the other end of the country. I am now at a place where I don't think I can cope with any of it anymore, and am seriously considering giving care of my children to CYFS (child welfare here in New Zealand). Dear God, I hope this course can help me find a way out of this awful darkness............

I have been suffering from depression for 12 years. It started 4 weeks after my son was born. It started with anxiety, fear, phobia then depression. I took Paxil for awhile and xanax for a bit but got dependant on the Xanax and the Paxil made me feel very strange. The Paxil also gave me stomache problems. Now I have to take Zantac for Acid Reflux. I am now on Effexor and I love it. I sometimes have such great days that I don't know if i'm doing good or if it is the meds. I am now reading a book called How to Free Yourself from Depression to try and get myself off of the medication. I really don't want to take pills to get thru the day. Any hints or ideas would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

I am 50 years old and have suffered from anxiety / depression most of my life. First when I was a teenager and then on and off over the past 28 years. I have been in an exteme anxious state for the past 2 years and am on long term disability from a very high level job. I cannot seem to shake this no matter what. I have genetic defect som I ma unable to take most medications. This is destroyin me and my family. I see 2 physchiartrists a week and nothing helps. This is tearing me and my family apart. I have always overcome my depression / anxiety but this time nothing works. I think that I have given up! What should I do??

Yep, you are certainly not alone! I've been suffering on and off from depression for more than 15 years. This time I really feel I have to fix it though. It is probably silly but I almost feel like it's my last chance, not rational at all I know. Anyway, good luck!

hi there, This /swearword/ depression really sucks. I don't know for sure how long I have had a classifiable disease. It gets confusing when there is also grief or other issues.. been taking medications for about 10 years. good patches bad patches..bad just now. BUT hang in there !!! keep listening and talking to the doctors. keep reading around. sometimes some one just writes a bit differently and it suddenly makes sense on good days i can remember how much i love being at the melbourne zoo - and i have taken some pretty good photos too. i can even get them out and sort of almost remember feeling a good feeling again. Maybe you have some memories you can take out? objects? and give them a bit of a polish. on bad days -- well i can't do hope. but i sure can do stubborn - and if i kill myself - well that would be letting this mumble swear rotten disease win. i might not win - but i aint gonna lose that bad. i give myself permission to THINK about suicide..but NOT act on it. i hope this might be helpful to someone.
