I have a huge spending problem like your wife. I am certain that it's due to the depression. From reading your posts, I understand that you are an intellegent person and I think you probably already know this, I guess the problem is that maybe she doesn't know that she's trying to fill a void with something that isn't going to work. It's hard to stop because even though half of my problems are due to the fact that I have this problem, I still spend like crazy to try and make myself feel better. I don't really have any advice because I'm sure you've already spoken to her about this. Perhaps she would be willing to come up with a spending plan with you so that you can come up with an amount that you're both ok with that she cannot go over. Good luck from the other side of it!

i'm gettting email messages thanking my wife for the flowers she sent to everyone. i am also watching the zeroes accumulate as our credit card maxes out. I have to keep adding payments even before the due date. the flowers may make an old aunt feel better, but they cut into my feelings of frustration as i watch the out of control spending. they add to my depression. don't know what to do about it, except to look for positive things in life.
