How to deal with what ifs

6 years ago 0 85 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
It's okay I guess. I find that I experience more anxiety during the weekend because I have more free time to worry. Not sure if it is the same for you.

I also find when I think that I cant get out of this anxiety body, that triggers a panic because I feel trapped and with no escape even though its me! Not sure if you or anyone understands that feeling.

Im praying that these feelings will one day pass and that its only my anxious brain taking control.

I'm having a good day so far! How about you? I hope better than last night.

Yes I did.  Thanks so much for the reminder. How are you doing today?

Oh no I hope you were able to get back to sle p after! It's so much harder to listen to your on advice. If you did tests I am sure you are okay! I do that too though I've done blood work, ecg and scan of my chest but I still worry we have to somehow break through that and remind ourselves we have had medical tests done and are okay.

Ughhhh see I dont practise what I preach. Remember I said my heart was skipping beats and I had to do more tests? So everything is normal but my heart was skipping beats again tonight and now im convinced that those tests are inaccurate. I just spent the last 2 hours reading about afibilation and I am convinced that is what I have. Now I keep thinking I should go to the hospital because if left untreated, it can form clots that can cause a stroke. Instead of sleeping ive been obsessing over these thoughts.

Lol! Oh no you didn't at all!
Ugh hopefully we can refrain from googling our symptoms. I've been doing better I used to google it every day!

I do the same. Hope I didnt make you feel bad. Im worse cuz I do it while driving hence the ticket lol.

Yep it's definitely a safety behaviour! And no no I didn't do it while driving I did it once I got home lol. Cause I was still focusing on my breathing after the attack. I definitely have a bad habit of googling to reassure myself.

So my psyhologist gave me a workbook to do. It states here, verbatim, "behavioural symptoms  of anxiety: hyperventilation (you: check), pursuit of safety, reassurance(you: check)." You searching up all medicals conditions to contextualize  your difficulty in breathing is a form of reassurance seeking and safety behaviour. Honestly as hard as it is, you ought to wane yourself from googling otherwise you will only prolong anxiety and harm the effectiveness of your treatment. Instead of googling, try to focus on something calming like she said. So perhaps focus on the changing colours of the trees or even other drivers and delay your need to google. OR just simple remove your access to your phone by putting it away since technically it's illegal lol. I know because I got pulled over and he gave me a warning ticket for $450.00.
