Hi Cara,

I have wrote a few suggestions out in another post but I think you are on to something here. It is easier to focus on a positive thought then to not think about something. If you get anxious what could you tell yourself to empower yourself? It is clear your kids are very important to you. How can you use the thoughts of your kids to make you strong. I know some people who hold a small token that reminds them of their children. They keep it close to them and when they feel anxious they hold the item and think of their kids. How would your kids want you to feel now?

Just a suggestion...we'll keep working on strategies until we find some that work for you Cara. Soon you will have a whole roster of tools up your sleave. Just keep asking questions and working on it. Your determined searching for the answer will pay off!

I've heard of a similar technique used in another process of therapy called "Transactional Analysis".   I suppose we all experiment to see what works, and blend the techniques.

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone uses this way of getting past anxiety and anxious thoughts?

I asked my sister what she does when she gets weird, intrusive and dumb thoughts that make her anxious or stressed and she says she doesn't give it any attention. She stops the thoughts when they start and tell herself "stop thibking stupid, you know your better than this! And they're not true"!

I'm going to try to give this a shot since I know all my life I've been doing the same thing, not giving any thoughts to my thoughts and forget about it. If you don't give it any thoughts then you don't remember them. You only remember the thoughts you dwell on. And I know this because since my anxiety I've Ben giving so much attention to all my thoughts that I make it a habit I remember all of them.

I hope this works. I don't have my  next cbt appt. till two weeks from now and I'm willing to try anything...

Any thoughts on this?
