What if?

Not smoking today, either. Here's to only seeing fire and smoke in the sky today. Happy 4th everyone.

Happy July 4 Independence Day!!! Lots of First times for everything!!

Indeed, there is a greater sense of Independence this year. No making sure I have enough cigarettes on me every time I walk out the door. No worrying about how to time smoke breaks into life activities. Just me doing my thing, smoke free.

casino trip

Yesterday I went into a casino, one of the last places where indoor smoking is allowed. I've avoided the casino since I quit, since I figured it would either make me sick or activate some cravings. At this point, I figured I'd be OK with it. As it turns out, I won $100, and had some cravings activated. Since I went there, I'd say cravings are at about a 3-4 on the 1 through 10 scale. They are quick but can be pretty intense.

So I have some questions:
1) Is it possible for me to have ingested enough secondhand smoke to have brought a noticeable amount of nicotine into my system? Or is this just mental? (I noticed after I got home that the smell in my clothes was kind of setting me off; changing out of them was helpful, but not enough.)
2) How do the rest of you cope with a sudden surge in cravings?

BTW, I don't intend to give in to these sensations. In fact, the cravings are a reminder as to why I should not smoke again. If I were to light up, the cravings that followed would be even more intense, and I don't want to deal with that. Just dealing with this now makes me amazed that I was able to tolerate withdrawal. Ugh! What a b---- that was!

First Times

That's just funny, breather! We've all done some scary things just to keep the cigs in the mix, haven't we?

Roses, I'd say that getting up in the morning and not even thinking about having a smoke has been a new thing this year. I just get up, get ready, and go. Saves me about 10 minutes in the morning.

3 days and counting...

Hi freethree,

Glad to hear that you are quitting again. From what I've read, each attempt increases your chance at finally being successful. Here's to seeking support and making this the last one!

Daily Stats Parade

Well, I was out of town when I crossed the $300 mark. $300 = enough to cover the upgrade in my phone service (one of my rewards) for a year.

Thanks for the support, everyone.

I noticed in my crave diary that the cravings tapered off after 2 days and then again after another 2 days. I'm back to "normal" (around a "1") now in terms of cravings.  It still seems kind of crazy, but I do think that some physical reaction must have been involved.

Ackkkkkkk - dying for a smoke rigiht now!!!!

This was really good for me to read. Seeing the difference between breather back then and breather now is amazing. Today's breather seems so calm and matter-of-fact about not smoking, despite having once been strung out just like everyone is in that first week.

I'm already way calmer than I was during hell week, but I am looking forward to being even more under control a year or some out.
