70 hrs. and counting!

Ha! I counted hours for the first week (which was 168 hours, and I just can't add in my head anymore after that!) and so now I'm counting days - I imagine soon I'll start counting weeks. I'm looking forward to being quit long enough so that I start counting MONTHS! You're doing great! Keep up the good quit! hey IDIOT

Hey, you made it through six full days - which shows you DO have what it takes to DO THIS! The fact that you already set your new quit date is also a good thing. Stay focused and be stubborn - this addiction is NOT going to win. We'll be here to cheer you on! Another Q regarding the Nicoderm patch,?

I have no idea why the instructions would say to stay on that high of a dosage so long, except for maybe they want everyone to buy their product for as long as possible? I decided not to wear the patch today, and it's been totally bearable. I still have more, so if I hit a rough spot and feel like I need it I can slap one on. I'm thinking everyone is different, some people are going to need it for longer, some are not. So why not just listen to your body? Just my two cents. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 478 Amount Saved: $45 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 15 Mins: 17 Seconds: 48

No more patches for me.

I was using the patch up until Monday night, when I was reading old posts and read about how long it takes to flush the nicotine out of your body (72 hours) - and suddenly decided I wanted no more nicotine coming into my body, not even from patches. So... even though this is my 18th day of my quit from cigarettes, tonight will be 72 hours since I had nicotine... and it's good. All good. I haven't had significant cravings, even though yesterday I was in a car with a (co-worker) smoker for five hours and now I'm sharing a hotel room with her. She offered to share a nonsmoking room with me, but it honestly doesn't bother me to be around smokers - I know it's a trigger for some (maybe most), but it isn't for me. I am still a supporter of WHATEVER it takes to get oneself quit (patches, gum, mints, prescriptions, hypnosis, meditation, yoga, m&m's, etc.) but for ME... it feels great to be nicotine free! nicotine

jnine, you are doing GREAT! It's great that you recognize that your crave is "just a thought" now, and heck, you can push a thought away, after all it's YOUR mind and you're in charge! Famous Cigarette Quotes...

I googled some quotes and found these... some of 'em just cracked me up. =D If we see you smoking we will assume you are on fire and take appropriate action. ~Douglas Adams Much smoking kills live men and cures dead swine. ~George D. Prentice (Took me a minute to get that... "cure" as in "cured ham," harhar) The believing we do something when we do nothing is the first illusion of tobacco. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson Tobacco. Tumor causing, teeth staining, smelly, puking habit. ~Arizona Department of Health Services Tobacco Education and Prevention Program ad campaign, created by Riester-Robb Advertising Nicotine patches are great. Stick one over each eye and you can't find your cigarettes. ~Author Unknown The best way to stop smoking is to just stop - no ifs, ands or butts. ~Edith Zittler Thank heaven, I have given up smoking again!... God! I feel fit. Homicidal, but fit. A different man. Irritable, moody, depressed, rude, nervy, perhaps; but the lungs are fine. ~A.P. Herbert (LOL, some days ARE like that!) I'd rather kiss a mad cow on the muzzle than a smoker on the mouth. ~Paul Carvel A cigarette is a pipe with a fire at one end and a fool at the other. ~Author Unknown Please don't throw your cigarette butts in the urinal. It makes them soggy and hard to light. ~Author Unknown (Eeeewww! But it did make me giggle.) I'm glad I don't have to explain to a man from Mars why each day I set fire to dozens of little pieces of paper, and put them in my mouth. ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic's Notebook, 1966 They threaten me with lung cancer, and still I smoke and smoke. If they'd only threaten me with hard work, I might stop. ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic's Notebook, 1966 The best way to stop smoking is to carry wet matches. ~Author Unknown LOL, I love stuff like this. OMG I am an addict

I had this same realization after doing some reading right here on this site. It's amazing to me now that I had been partaking of this particular substance (nicotine) for THIRTY YEARS and never really knew that much about it. Nicotine has the chemical formula C10H14N2, and the systematic name 3-(1-methyl-2 pyrrolidyl) pyridine. It is an alkaloid. It is a stimulant. It is a drug. Yes, it is a drug and it is highly addictive. Therefore, I was a drug addict, and will always be a recovering addict. I can see now what a slave I was to my addiction. It's quite sad, actually. Rainie, you're doing great! With your great attitude you'll sail through the hard parts. We can do this!
