Im running out of arm room...

For some reason, the patch doesn't stick to my skin as well as it should, nor to my husband's. My hubby tapes his on with that white hospital gauzy tape (the kind that doesn't rip your hair out), but for some reason that stuff irritates me. More than once I've found my patch, stuck to the inside of my clothes instead of to me. :) Congrats on 9 days! Threads "How I Became Smoke Free" Parts 1-4

I just found this post, hadn't read Pyro's story before. This was so exceptionally well-written that I was completely and totally captivated all the way through. And I burst into tears at the end. Thank you, Pyromate, for sharing your story. It was inspirational for me and will not be forgotten as I continue down the path that you helped to forge. Advice to newbies (from a 2-week-old, LOL)

Okay, Ive only been here at this site for about a week, but already Ive learned SO much. Heres the most important thing I learned so far: Know and understand your addiction! I quit smoking at midnight on January 1st, and though I managed to stay quit for the next seven days (until I found this site), it would have been a whole lot easier for me if I had understood my addiction from the beginning. I thought that I understood what was going on with my body, but guess what, I had a bunch of facts ALL WRONG. I didnt know about dopamine or pleasure receptors or carbon monoxide, and I sure didnt know what specifically was causing me to feel loopy and stupid (my least favorite withdrawal side-effect). All this time I thought that smoking brought me pleasure, but it made total sense to learn that in fact smoking doesnt bring pleasure, just a temporary end to discomfort what a total difference that perspective made! There is so much to learn on this site! Even though I havent been here long, I have a brilliant piece of advice for newbies who are just starting out. Scroll through the topic threads in this area and open EACH thread you find that has more than, say, 250 views. If you have time for nothing else, READ THE VERY FIRST POST IN EACH OF THESE THREADS. Theres a reason for so many views those posts have been bumped repeatedly because they contain some really, really good information and/or advice! Read. Learn. Listen. Internalize. Smile. Celebrate. Breathe. I wish everyone success in their quit! Here's a symptom... my whole life is changing!

Earlier today I was trying to explain this to a co-worker and she was totally not getting it, but then again, she's a non-smoker and always has been so I guess she wouldn't. (Duh) Anyway, I have been a smoker for my ENTIRE ADULT LIFE. Other than the short two times that I quit, I have NEVER coped with the ups and downs of life without nicotine - and - throughout my whole entire adult life I have... - always followed up every meal with a smoke; - always followed up intimacy with a smoke; - always dealt with problems by stopping whatever I was doing to smoke; - always celebrated good times with a smoke; - always dealt with grief with extra tar and nicotine; - always punctuated my workday with smoke-breaks; - always smoked when I drove; - always smoked during (non-work-related) phone calls; - always smoked when drinking coffee. Thats a lot of alwayses. Alwayses that will now be transformed into Nevers. Suddenly, overnight, I have changed the way I do just about everything. And guess what. There aint no patch for coping with that. BUT I don't want every aspect of my life to be experienced through a haze of smelly smoke anymore. I don't want every decision I make to be influenced by whether I'll be free to smoke or not. I want to experience life without all the nonproductive, health-endangering, frowned-upon-by-most-of-the-rest-of-the-world smoke-breaks taking up so much of my day! It takes me about 7 minutes to smoke one of my (former brand of) cigarettes... at 30 a day, that's 210 minutes - THREE AND A HALF HOURS - out of every single day that I've been totally wasting while suckin' smoke! Oh, sure, I always rationalized it, "We were talking shop the whole time," or "I took work with me outside," but c'mon, I know deep inside the real truth - the vast majority of that time was wasted. Gone. I'm not doing that anymore. I can be one really stubborn woman, and this time I'm gonna use that stubbornness to get me through a TOTAL life overhaul. Sorry for going on so long, but I figured at least someone HERE will get what I'm sayin'! :) Thank you for all the support here, I love having a place to vent! One week and counting...

Hey FFM, LOL, no, I'm not an accountant. I need to hire one, though... I don't suppose you live in Florida? :) It does help, somehow, though, to watch the hours stack up since the last puff. The more distance I can put between me and that moment, the easier this trip will be. I see you're on Day #5... good luck to you too! I think I read a post of yours which was about the "spaced-out" side-effect-thing? Geez, am I ever going through that!! Thank goodness it eventually goes away!! One week and counting...

Seven days, twenty-one hours, and... forty-one minutes. Thats a almost one hundred and ninety hours. Eleven thousand, three hundred and eighty-one seconds. Not that I'm counting or anything. :) Hi y'all! I just found this site tonight and what a cool thing! This is my third quit attempt, the first was for six months in 1984, the second was for six months in 2002. 2006 was my THIRTIETH YEAR of smoking! And... my LAST. This is it, I'm not doing this withdrawal thing EVER again, because I'm not ever going to suck oxygen through a cylindrical tube of paper filled with tobacco ever again. EVER. It's nice to find others who are traveling the same road. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 236 Amount Saved: $21 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 19 Mins: 31 Seconds: 17

One week and counting...

Hey, wow, people posted overnight! =D imallclear, thanks for the welcome. Yes, each quit has been a little different for me, too. My first one was totally cold-turkey, no NRT at all (I seem to remember I gobbled many many M&M's in those first few weeks!). Phil, thanks for posting. I just love the support here! :) Jan58, I probably sound positive because I AM! =D Four years ago I quit for six months - ack, SIX months! - it still pains me to think about how silly I was to start back up again! I know I can do this because I've done it before, only THIS time I'm not gonna be so silly again. I am using the patch, btw. Cobenfan, wow, thanks for the welcome and for the encouraging words! All those things you described - I am SO there! I do not want to be a smoker anymore. I do not want to live my entire life around my addiction ever again. Oh, and I don't think I mentioned this yet - my husband quit at the same time I did four years ago, and he also quit with me this time too. Also, a co-worker joined me on Thursday and quit also. It is so helpful to have my best friends with me on this!
