Having a really tough time

Dear Struggling, Hang in there! :) The weekends are still tough for me. Only becuz I have time on my hands, and I don't feel like doing anything! :( However, I've been able to beat 4 weekends. (One of them in Laughlin!) My secret: I sleep. When I feel the urge coming on I take a nap. If I can't sleep, then I just lay on the couch and veg out on a movie. Your junkie is plotting your slip............ :eg: Protect your quit! Getting harder

Hi Alexa! We are around the same time, so I thought I'd pop in. I too quit cold turkey, and had a not-so-tough beginning. I have not had a slump that lasted more than one day. On the onset of those craves, I came here. I read posts, lots of them. Then something I read really stuck in my head. I'm not sure of the exact words, but it did say that the more I think of this crave, the more intense it is and the longer it will stay. So, I took this advice and stopped obsessing over how I felt. I threw it out of my mind, and thought about something else. Of course, I had to walk away from the computer. I hopped on the couch, and turned on a chick flick. And 2 hours went by. Then I went for a walk with my kids. Another 40 minutes went by. Then I made a grocery list. That is a long one for me, as I compare stores and look through cookbooks for new meals. Before I knew it, 4 hours flew by. I then went on with my day as usual. Busy. Doing laundry is difficult for me - the garage is where I smoked. I smoked while I did the laundry. However, I had to realize - I have to do my regular routine sometime. Why delay? So I just do it. I have to get over it. I will survive putting the clothes into the washer without a cig in my fingers. It sound so ridiculous now. But there are everyday things that pop up that I say I have to get over it. And I just do them. One at a time. Anyhow, Lady made a perfect point. The crave is only as powerful as you make it. Since the nico is out of your system, you are now battling your addiction. Which, at times, it really tough. However, it is only as tough as YOU make it. You can control your mind and thoughts and actions. Only give not smoking all that power! Remember to reward yourself too. Why not throw in an extra reward? How we doing Smogfree Shamrocks ??

Well, I just got back from a great weekend! My first non-smoking camping trip! There was a few moments of despair, but thankfully, our group (which consisted of almost 40 people!!!!!!!!!) had ZERO smokers in it! It made it a little easier. It was so nice to just play with all of the kids without being interupted by a smoke. I got to hug all of them without them pulling away from me from the stench!!!!!!! ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,125 Amount Saved: $120.99 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 0 Mins: 26 Seconds: 50

To all, esp. newbies.. True Consequences

I'm sure glad this post was bumped. It really helps to hear and imagine the effects of smoking. And to know that these happended to people we know. It's not just stories to scare us anymore. This is real. A man I knew died 1 month ago from lung cancer. He was bed-ridden. He could barely move. He tied a string to a fan which turned on by a remote which then was tied to some sort of lighter, that would light his smoke. He bought hundreds of packs of smokes when he got weak, because no one would buy it for him. He lived alone with his daughter which is 15 years old. She had to actually watch him take his last breath as he died in his home. His daughter is now an orphan because he is dead and her mother is a drug addict that gave up custody when she was a baby. Hello

Hi there Fran! Well, we have a few things in common. :) Firstly, my kids didn't say anything either. Now, granted they are only 7 and 3, but they made a fuss every time my hubby and I smoked. They told us we "stink", and they backed away from hugs, and crinkled up their noses when a kiss was given. My daughter learned about smoking in school, and always asked us why we smoked. My other daughter, when she was 2, picked up a butt in the backyard and put it to her mouth and said "Hey Mommy, I do just like you!". Sad thing was, she was actually excited and thought she did something good. I missed a lot of their young years by spending my time in my garage, smoking. But you know all of that stuff............... Secondly, I went to Laughlin when my quit was 20 days. When I opened the door to the Lobby, I was amazed. There was sooooo much smoked in there! I never noticed just how much....... Something in me clicked, and I knew that I would not smoke. To be right next to someone who is smoking took a lot of willpower, especially when I was drinking too. But I still knew that I did not want one. I would not recommend someone going there until their quit is secure. And dont let your friends tell you that one drag is okay. N.O.P.E. One drag is not okay when you are quit. Even when you turn into the green monster craving a smoke. I'm sorry this is so long. I also want to congratulate you on your sucess so far. 6 days now! That is something to celebrate! Remember to reward yourself. Your first week is tomorrow!!!!!!! Keep us posted. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,136 Amount Saved: $120.99 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 1 Mins: 9 Seconds: 44

Does anyone have chest pains?

Hi there again Fran! I just responded to your other post. I felt this pain, well not exactly pain, but some sort of feeling in my chest early on in my quit. I came across another post, and that person put it into words for me. He said it felt like his lungs ached for a smoke. That is exactly how I felt. My chest ached for a cig. It finally went away around day 10-12. I would have gone to the doctor if it had been painful though. It felt like my chest would tighten, then ache. It is nothing to play around with though. For your own sake, you should definately see a doctor. Better safe than sorry!!!!! Headaches

Hi there! I have two weekly rewards: First, I promised myself that I would spend more time with my girls. Now that I have oodles of time on my hands, we have a nail painting party. My girls love to pampered. I have a foot soaker, so one at a time, I give us all pedicures. While one is soaking, I do our nails. My girls love this, and it is a reward to me to be able to spend more than 30 minutes at a time with them! It is also very cheap! Second, every Thursday, I get a smoothie with them. We all love smoothies, and we don't get them that often. It's not very expensive either. Anyway, I hope I have given you ideas! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,124 Amount Saved: $120.99 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 0 Mins: 23 Seconds: 26
