New here, have I chosen a terrible time to quit?

Hi everyone,

I have read some of your posts and lurked around the site and decided to join. I have decided to quit smoking today, had been thinking about it for quite some time. I feel ready and confident that this is my time to quit. I am a little bit nervous that I decided to do this a few days before xmas. Most of my extended family smoke and it will be a bit of a tempting time. I just felt the need to quit today. As I said I was flirting with the idea for the past few months, but I woke up this morning feeling like a non-smoker and refusing to be characterized as a smoker anymore. I hope that this is the time for me and feel that with some support and lots of gusto I can do this. Please, any tips or suggestions would be really appreciated. Also, have I chosen the wrong time to do this?

Wow, Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! I really didn't expect to be greeted by such kind words.

Brenda: I have begun "acting" as a non-smoker! Fake it till you make it right!

Sydney: I did prepare somewhat, I had been thinking about quitting for a long time and I feel ready now. I have been reading other posts, it helps!

Tabbyh and Janet: Yes, I'm starting see this as a xmas gift to myself and my family as well. Now to get my husband to do the same, I feel like it has to be his time too (so i will let him be).

Cameless: Thanks for the welcome :)

Dreaming about smoking

Hi Steelroots,

Welcome and congratulations on quitting smoking! You sound very excited, and it is making me excited too! Spread your positive energy, it's contagious!
So that deep breathng has been helping you a lot? I think I will start to try that out, just to get through even some minor stresses throughout the day. Let me know what you think about it.

Your top 3 - New Things to Try

Some things that I will do:

1. Try to be more spontaneous to try new things!
2. I will buy myself a blender to start making myself smoothies
3. I will plan a weekend camping trip for sometime this summer and camp "roughing it style" tent, sleeping bag, minimal food, a few matches...etc

What makes you smile?

You know what makes me smile is ------- Being smoke-free! I am so happy where I am at right now! I haven't been around here in quite some time, but I just wanted to stop by and let everyone know that I am still smoke-free. I may not be too active in the forums; however, do know that I read through the forums when I get the chance and I am inspired by all of you!

Thanks for sharing your success stories and challenges...
