Tought but kept my Quit

Just thought I would check in its over a week since I was able to post. I miss you all I am not keeping up as well as I would like to its difficult here at the moment we are at the end of a finical year and its very busy. I just took a look at some of the posts I see some quits are great new ones and some 30-40 days and 50 days and a year even five years Congratulations to all of you sorry I missed the big days wish you all the very best. I am doing ok at the moment some bad days but mostly good ones, Dont seem to crave as much these days although I had a near miss the weekend Ill tell you if I didnt smoke last weekend chances are I will never smoke again it was madness, First of all I locked my car keys in the car had to ring my son to go to my house get the spare key and come to the supermarket and open the car I then went to another shopping centre to get other items came out after an hour or so and couldnt find my car I lost my car, can you believe it. Eillis would know the shopping centre in question anyone could loose their car there( Liffey Valley) I just couldnt ring again and ask for someone to come and find my car talk about being stressed I was strung out so I went and bought a coffee and walked around till I found my car It took about 40 minutes But the interesting thing was I never thought about smoking it never entered my head this tells me I am winning I am actually beating the habit well at least I thought I was. Now Saturday night was a different story I would have smoked anything a pipe if I could have found one. Here is what happened I have very dark brown hair and I was thinking Ill get a colour and give it a lift treat myself , I never did this before but I thought sure its not rocket science Ill be well able to do this BUT obviously there is a knack to it, buying the right colour is important and how long you leave it in is crucial, Just wish I new all this before hand, I put the colour in my hair delighted with myself played a bit of music waited and then rinsed out my hair and to my horror it turned out bright red Ill tell you people I was glowing in the dark, panic set in, there is no where open to get something to fix it Ill tell you if I had found anything to smoke at that stage I would have but I had nothing thankfully the interesting thing is I got by it hopefully it will always be like this. Anyway I think I have learned my lesson, dont dabble in what you know nothing about get the experts to do it. My daughter in law put right on Sunday after she and my son had good laugh. Sorry for going on but its good to talk to you all. Hope to be back soon take care. N.O.P.E. Have Courage Nothing Changes

If you are just starting your Quit or maybe you are just checking out the site before you decide to quit I thought this might be of some help because I know when I was starting I was so scared. I think a smoker is always thing about quitting, we know instinctively that we have to stop at some point in our life or the habit just might stop us. From the time we start smoking we are planning to give them up, its case of when I am 25 Ill stop and then its when I am 30 and so on till like me you are 55 and in trouble with your health and now you have no choice but to stop if you want any decent quality of life. Please do not wait for this to happen to you Quit now and keep your health I only wish I had listened to this advice years ago. The following is just an idea as to how the addiction can play with your mind. I recall when I was starting my quit being very anxious and depressed and thinking this is the end of life as I know it, my life will never be the same again without the cigarettes I will never enjoy anything anymore, nothing will be the same, I remember thinking whats the point in going out socialising or even going for a walk, visiting family Im not going to be a nice person to be around I had myself convinced that my life as I new it would be over I thought that I would spend every waking hour thinking about the cigarettes and how I would be depriving myself for the rest of my life. Well as the days went by I new I could be doing with a bit of help and support just to keep going and to try at the very least to give this quit a decent shot. I was searching the web and I found the SSC and all the great people here and read everything I could even all the old posts. It was just great to find all these people who had quit or who where going to quit I was glad to have access to all the good advice, I have to say everyone had a great input each had there own solution to all the different problems that would come up. But the one thing that kept coming up all the time was life will get better and you will enjoy all the things in your life as you had before you stopped smoking all the elder quitters said the same thing NOTHING CHANGES Life will be for you as it is for a non smoker you will not even think about it life just gets better and they are so right I am doing everything I use to do, I go out I visit I walk my dog I get in my car and go to work nothing has changed, my life is as it was the only difference is I am not killing myself slowly with cigaretts I smell better and I am so much healthier. I dont know if I am putting this right, I am writing this because it was so important to me that my life wouldnt change too much this was one of the biggest issues I had when I was thinking about quitting I was so scared , I wanted to share this. I guess what I really want to get across is that nothing is different in my life all my worries where completely unfounded. I have earned this quit the hard way and Please God I can keep it and go on with my life smoke free. One thing I have learned , that no matter what the addiction it can be overcome with a strong will and lots of support and kindness Please stay with the SSC you will be delighted to find you have lost of very kind friends and all the support you could wish for. Good luck.
