Cough, You wrote:
Yes,i do want to quit
Do you? Really? Then you can. When your desire to quit is greater than your desire to smoke, you will become smoke free. It's as simple as that. If you really, truly want to quit, then use this site to its full potential. Go through the quit program, post often, make a list of reasons to quit, read as much as you can here, and metally get yourself ready for the quit. There's nothing magical about quitting. Nobody here was sprinkled with pixy dust that enabled us to quit. We just bit the bullet, said "I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!!" and refused to smoke that next cigarette. And if we can do it, then so can you! It won't be easy... nobody said it was easy, but if you want to live more than you want to smoke, then it's worth it! Join us! We all are waiting for you to become a part of this group and would love to have you! Crave the Quit! I was in your shoes not long time ago , thinking that i will smoke till the day i will die ( ........i want to die with a cigarette in my mouth......). I was a heavy smoker (now im just heavy...lol.), bottom line we all feel the same, since we are/were using the same "drug". so, if i can do it! and he can do it! and she can do it! YOU CAN DO IT TOO!! the secret is: that you REALLY want to do it!! you will suffer for a few weeks (thats the price we all here paid) but after that it gets VERY VERY easy !!! i did it by setting 30 days goal each time. and now after almost 5 months i dont even count the days any more ( acctually i log in today to find out how long it has been since i quit smoking and i read your post). WOW, i am so proud of myself. and you will too!! good luck and go for it!!! Sure you can! I have smoked since I was 12, and 2 packs a day since I was in high school. I had never written a budget without cigarettes in it. Or a kiss without smoke on my breath, except for my dad, of course. I had never had a drive in the car without a cigarette flicking out the window. But I quit, and I am doing great! I am a happy non-smoker. I like all the little and big things associated with not smoking. Just decide once and for all and don't look back. Good luck and hope to see you around. Hi Cough! I QUIT on May 11. When I quit. I loved my smokes. LOVED THEM! Loved the way they taste. Loved the smell. Loved how they made me feel AND I QUIT! I QUIT because they are killing me slowly. I QUIT because I didn't want my children to smell the smoke in the house anymore. I QUIT because I didn't want them to watch me die a horrible death by suffocation. I QUIT because it puts money back in MY pocket and not CEO's of the tobacco world. I QUIT because I can add so many more years to my life. I QUIT because I can do ANYTHING I set my mind too and YOU can too! I could go on and on about the benefits of quitting smoking but I won't. I want you to experience the feeling I have now that I haven't had a smoke in 20 somethin days! I'll admit, the first couple weeks were hard but as the days go by, you stop thinking about it. The first time I thought about smokes today was when my Boss's mom took her 11 month old grandson to the store. I said grannie is buying stinky smokes and she said yeah. I haven't the urge! I AM FREE AND YOU CAN BE TOO! Cough, of course you can, we all can, we just didn't want to enough before. Read a bit around here and you will see you can do it. My DH's motivation? he is 45, was checking his retirement $$, doing a calculator thing, and with his family heart history, weight and smoking he had plenty of money because he only needed it for 20 years. It said he would not live past 65 at the rate he was going. It said if he quit he would live to 85. We both quit the very next day. We have retirement plans :) Isn't that crazy that is what it took? We buried some one at work 2 years ago, lung cancer, we have some one going through chemo right now, throat cancer, I waved to them as I went to the smoking area. Crazy. Every one has a different reason, I hope you find yours real soon, and when you do we will help. Hi Cough, I am also a 44 year old maried man. I smoked for 28 years. Like you I also thought I could never stop smoking. I had tried and tried so many different methods so many times before. I thought that I was going to be another death statistic of the tobacco companies. Cough, take a look at my stats below. It is possible if you are determind enough to make it happen. Need a mentor ? I'm putting my hand up. WE can do this. Hi Cough, You can do this. There isn't anything special about people who quit - it happens one cigarette at a time. You don't smoke the next one and you've quit. If you want to, go through the online quit program on the left. It will help you get prepared and I believe that preparation and a good attitude are the biggest ingredients for success. Take some time to think about your other quits. What made you loose them? How would you get around those things this time? Have you considered using the patch, nicotine gum or some other NRT? Make a list of all the things you hate about smoking - you can be free of a lot of them within the first few days. You might have to change your screen name though because you'll probably lose the cough along the way ;) All the best P.S. I only wanted to beat my last quit of 9 days and look what happened to me!
