Chantix users - how did you feel?

Hey Lori We are definately now on the same quitting schedule. I had my last smoke on Saturday morning (quit date was supposed to be this Tuesday) and then decided to wait to see if I had any cravings, have been smoke free since then. I have wanted a smoke, I think out of habit, but nothing I would call a "craving". I am kinda worried that it is going to hit me all of a sudden. Husband is still smoking and the smokes are around, but I am determined with this. I don't want to go through it again. Keep updating - we can do this. Hi everybody - Just checking in. I was supposed to quit on Tuesday after a week on Chantix, but yesterday when I ran out of smokes, I just didn't go out and by any more. I have already been feeling so strange on the Chantix, that I decided I'd get some of those bad first 72 hours out of the way over the weekend. I still feel spacey from the Chantix, but so far am not having huge cravings. I really, really want to be done with this - and I keep thinking that if I give in and make myself feel better for a moment, it will just mean that I have to do this all over again. Kati, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that hasn't completly quit on chantix. I've been on it for 2 weeks and still smoke 3-5 per day and have strong urges when I go for long periods. I will again try this week and think I will make it this time. I guess I just the super addicted type. all the best My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 59 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,003 Amount Saved: $236.00 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 21 Mins: 59 Seconds: 23

Hi Everyone: I'm a Newbie, not sure what to do but here goes. I didn't like Chantix at all for the first two weeks. I had constant nausea, dizziness, excessive tiredness, wild weird dreams, gas, stomach cramps, constipation, couldn't even think straight. I felt like I had the flu, maybe something worse. I hated Chantix! Everyone's different. Now I feel just great, no more side effects after the first two weeks were up. I'm grateful to have Chantix now and glad I didn't cave in and quit taking it when the going was rough. Good luck to all. Annie

CC - I am now on day 5 of Chantix and the cigarettes just taste different, not necessarily bad. I really don't have urges to smoke, just seems to be habit, its not that I want one, I am just so used to having one. I sorta tried quitting with the patches about 3 years ago and that lasted 2 weeks until my husband bought a pack of smokes. The only other time I quit was when I was pregnant and that was 15 years ago. Good luck. Candi

Hello! Newbie here. I want to start by thanking everyone for this great resource. I took my first Chantix this morning and thus will have a quit date of 10/4. Like many other folks, I have tried other treatments in the past to no avail (well, I quit for a year once, about 4 years ago). I'm hoping I can benefit from a support system this time around, but don't really have the time to commit to the local in-person meetings offered thru my health system. So I'm hoping the wonderful support you all provide on this board will help me keep at it. So hello to all, and wish me luck! I really need to stop, my lungs are getting worse (I have had allergy-related asthma since I was a kid). Relevant stats in the service of others research efforts: 43 yo female; pack-a-day habit. Will follow the prescribed regimen (starting with .5mg). Not sure yet whether I'll taper off or quit cold turkey (plenty of time to ponder that!). So far, so good (it's been an 2 1/2 hours since my first pill and I don't seem to be getting the upset tummy... I did the breakfast/water routine, tho). Feeling a little strange in the head (sort of lightheaded, I guess), but it isnt really enough to bother me. Its just an awareness that somehow my head feels a little different than normal, if that makes any sense and a bit of that scalp crawl feeling. Good luck to everyone who's out there on this same journey!

Starfish - I'll be hanging in there with you until Tuesday and beyond. I have definitely felt strange since starting on Chantix, but if can help me finally quit, I will be happy to live with a few side-effects. Lori

Lori Looks like we are at the exact same place in our quitting, my quit date is also Tuesday. I am also concerned when I up the dose tomorrow what to expect and then also when it goes up again next week. Good luck.

I am on day 3 of taking Chantix and will be going to the full 2-pill dosage tomorrow. My quit date is on Tuesday. I have been feeling very light-headed and spacey, which has made the last few days difficult since I am a full-time student. I am concerned that will only get worse when my dosage increases. Can anyone advise whether they have had a similar side-effect and how long it took that feeling to diminish? Thank you. Lori
