Being a gardener I had trouble raising turkeys. They kept dying. I never ever figured out if I didn't watered them enough or if I planted them too deep.

When I was farming I always thought of it a little like bacon and eggs. Chickens get involved but pigs are committed.

Davit,
If you were asking how to make a turkey a vegetarian, I'm not sure they have a choice, do they

Hi Davit,

I just might have to give your red kidney bean burgers a try!

You are funny. One of my home support ladies was vegetarian. She was allergic to meat protein.

I have made burgers out of Red kidney beans by putting half of them in a processor and chopping them just enough that they are coarse like hamburger and then blending the rest with egg and bread crumbs and mixing the two with a little soy sauce for colour. You also need to add a bit of oil or butter because they are very dry. Once you put the sauce on them you can't tell them from real burgers and the coarse texture makes them look like it.

I don't know how you would make a vegetarian turkey though.
I'm having Cornish hen. (no left overs)

Tryptophan is an amazing sleep aid but doesn't have to come in a pill. My doctor said that by scalding milk enough will be released to aid sleep. I don't know if it is true or how it works but it does. I don't like milk so I put postum in it.

It is easier to overdose on supplements because no one is monitoring you. A balanced diet is important, and I find when I'm busy and neglect it my mental well being drops as fast as my physical with the added disadvantage that now I am too tired to eat properly. Vicious circle there.

Hi Hugs,

Many of the hormonal messengers in the brain are produced by amino acids with the help of vitamins and minerals.  Amino acids are building blocks of protein, so consuming adequate protein is important.  For example, tryptophan is an essential amino acid, meaning the body can't produce it on its own, it is derived from the food we eat.  Tryptophan can be found foods like in fish, chicken, turkey, greens like spinach, broccoli, swiss chard, kale, lettuce, cooked beans etc..
Tryptophan is converted to serotonin in the body.  Many of the anti-depressant drugs focus on increasing serotonin in the brain by inhibiting its reuptake in brain cells.  However, its possible that some individuals do not have a sufficient amount of serotonin to begin with.
This is where supplementation comes in.  I suggest speaking with your health care provider to discuss nutrition in more detail and they can suggest ways to improve your diet or recommend supplementing if need be.
In the meantime, include lots of fresh veggies and fruit in your diet daily - your body and mind will thank you for it!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your turkey...if you are vegetarian, then enjoy your greens!!

V,
I've fortunately never taken either, but being a social outcast has probably more to do with it.

On the topic of what's good for you in terms of nutrition, since there's a connection between depression and the anxiety, how legitimate is the orthomolecular movement and nutrition connection?

Illegal drugs and Alcohol can worsen your anxiety.  Alcohol is a depressant and is not a fix to any problem. Mixing drugs or alcohol with anti-depressants can be detrimental to your health so try to avoid these substances at all costs.
