Morning cravings

16 years ago 0 43 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi, I used to get up, get a cup of coffee, smoke a cigarette, and then grab a bowl of cereal. Now, I get up, and grab a bowl of cereal first thing, this keeps by mouth and hands busy and the urge goes away until I finish the cereal, then I get up and head to the sink and brush my teeth right away. I am usually okay after that. You can do this. It is hard, but you can do this. The morning crave will pass. In the mean time grab something to drink on log on to SSC and read. Other have given you sound advice. Try some meditation and reflex on the reasons you are quitting. Focus on what you can do for today. Make a to do list. Just don't smoke and you will be okay. Gin -- That's been my tough time too. I've been trying to change my routine and also brush my teeth and start chewing gum after I get up to give my mouth something to do. I've also just made some peace with the fact that -- ok, mornings are going to be my tough times. Other people have a tough go of it at work or after a meal, but for me it's going to be mornings. Thankfully, mornings eventually become afternoons. And if I just don't smoke, some morning (I don't know which one) I'm going to wake up and not crave a cigarette. I know you're in the worst of it now -- but it will get better. Hang in there. You can do it. Gin, It is important that when you quit smoking you also change your routine. If your cravings are the worst in the morning than try eating something different for breakfast or going for a walk right when you wake up. A change in pattern will help ease these cravings. Congratulations on being smoke-free for 3 days so far, that is a great accomplishment! Your first and second week will be the toughest to get through as your body is still going through withdrawl from nicotine. Breaking old habits is tough and that is why we suggest a change in routine to help avoid triggers and cravings. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Hi Gin, My quit date is Oct 23rd, and I have been asking myself that same question, as I know that is going to be the toughest time to deal with for me. One thing that I have been told is to totally change my morning routine, so I'm going to give that a shot and see if it helps, maybe even as far as getting up a littler later than normal so I don't have that sit/smoke/wake up time. Best of luck to you!

Hi everybody, Well I'm still on the road of recovery...just started. What I would like to know is what does a person do with the cravings in the morning...man, do I get an awful urge to smoke.
